scams always start off with some kind of story....

Exactly, and it is almost a form letter, just fill in the blanks:

Insert ~

Name
Exciting job away from home
Reason for not being able to use anything but PP
Reason for utilizing a shipping agent
Feel sorry for me excuse

That is the standard scam language. An agent picking it up. You should fuck with him.

Start by asking how the T-Bone is at sea for all those months.
Ask for his brother's address and you might be able to deliver it personally.
Ask him for his PayPal email and you will send him a Request for Payment through PayPal.

I do the same thing. I've even gone so far as to tell them I just won the lottery and will pay them to come pick it up.

Spend some time the "Cars + Trucks" section, JEEZ, Freakin squeaky clean 09 Lexus with low miles for $4995.00 or a nice Jeep, or...?

I say let him pay you with paypal and send him a box full of garbage at around 50lbs. Just include a picture of yourself with the amp giving the camera the middle finger.
Better yet , send a box filled with HIV tainted syringes so when he opens the box they spill out on his lap!!

Or a pipe bomb with dirty needles! WOW

That email scam is almost word for word I got a few months ago.

I don't get anymore bullshit responses to my Craig's List ads. I no longer provide an e-mail for "potential buyers" to respond to. If they're a serious buyer, they can call me.

****Just saw this thread****

I just got one of these emails for something that I'm selling. Did a search on here to see if anyone else had got one   ....it just reeks of a scam with the way it's worded. It's actually the first of these kind of scam emails that I've got so far though, involving paypal payment. Here is the one I got:

"Hi There,

Thank you for getting back to me. Can you assure me that it's in good state and that i will not be disappointed with it. I'm ready to pay your asking price and to be honest, i wanted to buy this for my father, but the issue is i am an oceanographer and i do have a contract to go for which starts tomorrow and am leaving any moment from now.The contract is strictly no call due to the lack of receptionon the sea area. But I'm able to access email anytime as we will make use of laptop so my only quickest payment option is PayPal as i can send money via PayPal anytime.Since I'm requesting this transaction to be done via PayPal, i will be responsible for all the paypal fee/charges on this transaction and if you don't have an account with paypal, its pretty easy, safe and secured to open one. Just log on to http://www.paypal.com. I hope we can make the purchase as fast as possible? I have a mover that will come for it once payment clears and they will take care of very necessary paper for me. So i look forward to hear from you soon. will like to see more pics.

I need the address where the agent will meet you and your PayPal
email address so i can send the money now.

Many Thanks"

That seaman gets around. I believe he has been here before.....

Tell him to throw in 2 goats, a Pygmy virgin, and Nigerian Idol season 7 on DVD and he has a deal.

could be a true story ^^, i work as a 2nd officer on a offshore supply vessel in norway, internet is restricted onboard since its alot of work, 12-14 hours every day while at sea, salary is great so he could easiliy afford a pt100 as a gift. After taxes i get 5900 dollar each month as a newly graduated mariner, and a marine engineer depending on rank get more than that

Are you some kind of scam promoter that goes to guitar forums and tells people the guy is legit? Give me a break. "shipping agent" and "send me your email/PayPal/whatever info" are the most common tactics of Internet scammers. If you use a legit email address, you shouldn't even reply because they then have your info.

I kid you all not ! Lately I have been getting these kind of responses from craigslist...

I noticed your posting and wanted to ask you something important. I am married and caught my partner cheating on me so I decided to get even! My friend said cl would be the best place to find somebody who I can hook up with for one time only so thought the heck, I would email someone I thought sounded sexxy in the ad and came across yours! You seem real and delightful so would you be maybe interested in chatting online first to see if we're feeling each other? To prove to you that I am real, Im going to private message you all of my pics and cell # as soon as I see you log in. Can you text me today if you think I am hot? This way I can weed out bots and scammers as I'm tired of them! I bet you'll be surprised to see who I am! :)

and....

Howdy, is your post still valid? I need further information on it please. I've been looking for something similar for number of years so not sure if it's the one. I uploaded a video of what I'm seeking to buy along with my personal information so can you double check if they are the same thing or not?

I don't want to meet you in person and then find out they are completely different. By the way, I ONLY deal with adults so erase this email if you are a little kid trying to scam me, I'll not fall for that. You do have to sign up to see the video to confirm you're real and legal of age but no worries, there's no cost to join. Anyways, Im going to message you on there as soon as you sign on so you'll know it's me. Thanks!

and...

I discovered your ad and wanted to ask you something essential. I am married and caught my partner cheating on me so I want to get back! My boss said cl would be the best place to find someone closeby who I can hook up with for one time only so thought the hell, I would email someone I thought sounded desirable in the ad and came across yours! You seem real and pleasant so would you be maybe interested in chatting online first to see if we're feeling each other? To prove to you that I am real, I uploaded all of my pix, phone #, and a special note for you only under my private profile page. Can you call me today if you think I am hot? This way I can weed out bots and scammers as I'm tired of them! I bet you'll be impressed to see who I am! :)

and...

A person who's naughty is looking to hook up and sent you a private message below:

"Pardon me, is your thing still available? I got money completely ready. And umm, I saw your post and swallowed pride to give this a try. I want to hang out tomorrow after work around 2pm ish so let's get drinks. My phone # is 756-02XX (last 2 digits are concealed) so text me. Can you send me your pictures to my cell so I know you are real and I will reply back with mine too. I even uploaded a video for you on my profile, are you interested? I swear Im not a weirdo just want to become friends and maybe more!"

and...

Is your product still available? Umm...this might be
weird but you seem attractive in your listing. Do you want to get together sometimes? I promise I'm not a weirdo, just feeling alone. If you're interested, meet me on my exclusive dating profile (it's like facebook for grownups), there's no cost to sign up! My photos and my
cell # are all on there so get in touch with me. There are too many liars on here so if you're
legit text me and maybe we can meet to become buddies and maybe more? It's up to you! Okay, I won't bother you again! You'll be amazed to see what I look like! :)

There are several more too and all from spammers on Yahoo and a few that came from Google...

Pics are in order with their posts...

You get those too? I save the pics for my spank bank, delete the emails and move on ;)

a former boss of mine got caught up in an internet scam girlfriend like the ones mentioned above. he's a divorced sci-fi lover in his mid 50's living in his mother's attic and he had just started using the internet a few years ago when he began utilizing chatrooms (didn't even know they still existed?) to meet women. he met this one girl named 'britney' who claimed to be a blond-haired, blue-eyed, 21 year old model/actress of canadian descent but living in the philippines with her mother (pretty common, right?). they never talked on the phone, just internet chat/emails. over the course of a few weeks, he sent 'her' a few photos of himself and 'she' sent him photos, again, like the ones posted above, and he instantly fell head over heels for this 'girl.' now, mind you, this is a balding, overweight nerd in his 50's and he legitimately thinks this picture-perfect young honey is in love with him too (sad, really, but he didn't know scams like this are rampant on the internet, as he was a newcomer, and they preyed on his loneliness and desperation for love). my fellow employees and i all tried to teach him about how this was clearly a scam and 'she' was going to start asking him for money, but he was too smitten to listen or care.

after a while, they planned to meet in real life, but there were a few road blocks. she didn't have enough money to afford a plane ticket so, instead of having him buy a ticket for her, she asked him to wire her $500 so she could buy it herself. well, HE DID. only thing is, she sent 'her cousin' to pick up the money and 'her cousin' was MUGGED after he picked up the money! after telling my boss this sob story, HE WIRED HER ANOTHER $500 BECAUSE HE FELT BAD FOR HER! after a few more weeks of back and forth conversation, the time when they were to meet was rapidly approaching. unfortunately, the day before her flight to america, HER MOTHER DIED! so tragic, so unforeseen, soooo...conveniently phony. she now could not make the trip to america after the passing of her mother and her non-refundable ticket (that almost certainly never existed in the first place) went to waste. regardless, she and her family were, 'too poor to afford a funeral,' so she asks my boss for $1000 to help out with the expenses, AND HE GIVES IT TO HER! so he has now given this person $2000 without even hearing her voice over the phone. he starts to get suspicious, so she just sends him more provocative photos of 'herself' and he is satisfied with that response.

at this time, two more girls begin the same line of bullshit with him (obviously, britney had told 'her' cohorts that his guy was an easy target), and now the quintessential middle-aged sad-sack who couldn't get a date with a homely woman his own age in real life all of a sudden had THREE 21-year old model girlfriends whom he had never met or even spoken to - and he was convinced it was all for real. his behavior shifted from just plain weird to downright obsessive as he started blurting out that he has beautiful girlfriends to customers and showing them (the x-rated) photos of these women without their provocation. he began taking frequent 'bathroom breaks' where he would spend 15-20 minutes in the bathroom writing emails to his girlfriends and eventually, his life was fully consumed by the entire fiasco. he was soon fired, but didn't seem to care much because he was WAYYY wrapped up in this girlfriend scam.

we haven't seen or heard from him in almost 4 years. coincidentally, he happens to live a few blocks from my girlfriend, so occasionally, i'll drive by his house at 2, 3, 4am when i'm leaving her place and the light in his attic room is always on; and he's probably emailing someone who he thinks is in love with him...

HOLEE CRAP!!! That former boss is one PATHETIC LOSER. Geez... how STUPID and BLIND can a person be? That's insane. Unfortunately, his pathetic neediness only emboldened these scammers. It's like feeding the bears. Losers who give them money are part of the problem. What a SAD sack...
