Building a smaller board for a new amp , need to gas the front end for more metal tones , anywhere from Metallica - meshuggah . Seems like there is about 900 million boosts out there . Any recommendations ?

Man, so many choices…..recto style amp loves Maxon 808-TS types. Marshall style amp loves SD1 types. I like the Boss OD1X for everything. Thousands of more choices out there.
What amp are you getting?

I am a firm believer in the single knob Spark Mini if you have an amp that you love the tone and want minimal coloration. But it is a clean boost only - adds no grit or dirt to speak of. For a bit of OD in addition to signal boost plus some useful tone coloration and control, I am loving my TS-Mini.

You have Hermansson Amps right ? The koko boost v1 is awesome at boosting them and not losing the amps sound in any way . That’s all I use with Hermanson

I'm gonna go against the grain, Marshall amp with TC style or klone boost - not sd1 unless you're going for a butt rock type tone.

Do what I did. Buy 80 of them and then notice which ones are still out when you’re done jamming. Lol. SD1, Barber Direct Drive, MXR Badass OD and a handful of cheap( Demon fix, Joyo) are usually the ones that are always out.

I use my xts modded GE7 more than anything. That and an 808 with my tremoverb. For some leads a unit 67 sometimes.

I second @japetus on getting a TS something and a sd1 and see what happens.

That’s cool, I’m digging mine with a dirty tree surprisingly. It normally doesn’t like tight boosts but it works really well

The Buxom Boost is pretty impressive and flexible with the option the remove the EQ section out of it.

I think an EQ is better than a boost. If you have to have a boost, I’m partial to the VFE Standout mainly because it has high and low pass filters.
EQs are great. I had a GE 10 for a while. Problem is, when I dialed it in I sounded just like I did with my OD1X. Lol
