I love my Quick Rod. I think mines an 06. Updated clean, no loop volume though. Mine has some religious scribblings inside,You have to pull the chassis to see it. I could care less. The amp is so awesome there could be a picture of a two goats fucking inside and I wouldn't care.

:hys: :hys: :hys: :hys: :hys:

I owned a Nitro for a week or so. Didn't like it at all and sold it to a friend and he loves it. Go figure. It was too much bells and whistles and the gain was noisy.

Watt for watt, they are easy on the wallet. I don't care for all the stacked gain, loops, masters, etc. But, that is me.

Go check Nick's clips of his Splawn. He took it to see Dr. Jerry at FJA. And this thing now smokes....

Yeah Splawns suck. You have to have someone mod them to make them great amps.

I'm really digging my KT88 Nitro. I'd really like to try a 2010 Quick Rod for some more Marshall-y tones.

I don't give a flying youknowwhat about the religious markings either. Everytime I've ordered something from them or just called/emailed them as a tirekicker they have been more than cool to me. That means A LOT more to me than someone's religious beliefs. A lot of builders/modders/dealers should do themselves a favor and take a lesson in customer service from Splawn.

wonder if the religious beliefs is why the customer service is good? ;)

I tried to like them...more than once! A few thousand dollars later..I still couldn't stand them but....some do so...Ya never know until you try and for what it's worth...You'll never know what an amp is about until you own one and play it for a few days. Getting "opinions" is just that...Someone elses take on something.

Not sure what that means but I've never discussed religion with them nor would I want to. I just think they make great sounding amps at a decent price and treat their customers right.

Thanks for reply.
Sounds like a quickrod would be good for me.
Is this amp usable in a home non gigging environment or is it strictly a gigbeast?
Are the gears footswitchable?

the gears are footswitchable, but not with the included footswitch...

the included footswitch allows you to switch between clean and OD, and OD1 and OD2 (2 different non-adjustable gain levels on the OD channel)

the amp is however built to allow somewhat limited switching of the gears with a different foot controller.

I have an RJM mini amp gizmo and RJM mastermind to switch my rig, and it allows me to switch between clean/OD, OD1 and OD2 on the gain channel, gear 1 and gear 2 or gear 2 and gear 3 on the gain channel, and effects loop on/off (I think, I don't use that ability)

the gears are controlled by a 3 position selector on the front of the amp...if you set it to gear 1, you can use a setup like mine to footswitch between gears 1 and 2, or if you set it to gear 2 you can footswitch between gears 2 and 3.

...I wish all 3 gears were footswitchable, but it's still very usable to have 4 different levels of gain footswitchable on the gain channel, and a clean channel to boot.

Splawn Competition + KT-77 tubes =

I used to play at bedroom levels. Some people on the forum said that amp was the best tone I've ever had.

I doubt thats it because most people hate christians.

I'm wondering if you have any polling statistics you are drawing this info from?

Now maybe we can go back to talking about the amplifiers. Whether they have a bible verse in them or a mommy and daddy goat who love each other very much pictured inside, the way they sound is most important to me.

I just got Nitro #2 last week. KT88s this time around and I love it. I had el34s/KT77s last time around and while I liked it, it seemed to lack something. Talking to Splawn before I ordered, I found that they did do some revisions to the 2010 Nitros. Increased gain and changed something on the Resonance control. The loop volume helps it sound great at low volumes.

I hated the QR the first time I played it. Way to bright and harsh for my tastes. I'd love to give one another try since my tonal tastes have changed since then and I prefer more mids in my tones.

I wasnt complaining about the bible verse, it doesnt bother me.
I would rather talk amps too dude, i wasnt the one that started the bible verse stuff.
I was the one that said i liked splawn amps and been playing them for years.

Seems like me and you are big splawn fans and your clips are some of the best ive heard.

ahh, confirmation then! I knew something was different, good to know my ears weren't playing tricks on me then. I felt the same way about my(your) old one.
Glad to hear you are getting along with this one Matt, told you there was some added mojo in the new ones.

I have a 3 pre Quickrod. Love it!

cool vids man. I miss my old QR now, lol.
See how the input jack is lower on those than the newer models, that's another sign it's a 3 pre version. I think those models that had the gears, but before the updated clean, were a killer revision. I'd really love to try a new 2010 version if they sound similar to those.

I changed V2 and V3 pre's with Tungsol's. I have Sino's throughout the rest.

Liking that combo as well, works really well with the QR.

You should, it was your idea

I need to try the JJ's like you have in V1/V4. I spoke to Doug at Doug's tubes and he gave me a good recommendation that I'll try when I need to change.

No, you weren't the one who brought up the bible verse thing and Scott is definitely opening himself up for some complaints by putting it in there. From a business standpoint, I personally don't think you should alienate anyone. He must feel very strongly about it. You and I both feel strongly about the amps and you are absolutely right, that's what matters on Rig Talk!

Just to clarify again, I brought up the bible verse issue but I personally could care less. The reason I did bring it up is I remember someone ordered a Splawn and kind of flipped out over it. I just wanted to put the info out there so there are no surprises to those who do order one.

Scott builds a great amp and is a great guy, i talked to him many times and hes always helpful, he does feel strongly about what he believes and and people should respect that about him because in the musical instrument world it can prevent some people from buying what your selling. Im glad scott is who he is and stands up for what he believes in, i wished there was more people like him.

I also love both my splawns and i think the nitro with kt88 is my favorite amp he builds, for a while i really liked the promod but theres more i like about the nitro, i had one with el34 and didnt really like it but i love it with the 88's. Quickrod is also a great amp and i really like it also.

What I was alluding to in my previous post is that Scott is a good guy and I'm sure his faith has alot to do with his business practices. I admire that... and I'm neither Christian nor religious at all.
