Had a bad ear day today. So i was forced to make another clip. And even though i already posted it in the other thread, here is it "again".

That sounds dope man 🤘🏽I think both tones are great & a complement to each other.

Mixes do interesting things. A lot of mid-forward tones in the right mixes can sound scooped in the right conditions. Playing guitar by itself, I like tones somewhere between scooped and balanced. "Slightly scooped" maybe. In mixes though, bumping the mids a few db at a very wide Q works great. Making your guitar sound like a megaphone because idiots on TGP and at Guitar Center parrot "guitar is a MIDRANGE instrument" is stupid.

That tone in the video is pretty awesome, btw.

True. Thanks man. I always try to find a sound that's cool and feels good on it's own, works with a Band AND in a Mix without any additional EQ, just with the right (single) mic placement. That can be hard sometimes. And maybe it's a bit stupid too. :D

Scooped all day
Bring it back
Although that scooped sound in that clip isnt scooped at all imo
Yeah. Still plenty. But i wouldn't want to use less. I could get it a bit grindier with a different mic position. In the room it was quite terrifying :D

I use scooped for chord work and midrange bump for single notes with the band. It's really about how it fits around the vocals.
I only use one specific sound. Because of the lack of a Drummer at the Moment i sit behind the Drum Kit myself sometimes to get things into perspective.

After a few times listening to it i'm already fed up of it again
I need a break :D
Gonna listen to this Grandma Angus Rock now:

hah, "stupid" is the last thing I'd call a tone that can do that.

Sounds killer as always man, love your nasty ass tones. Like stated earlier though, they still have plenty of mids between the Marshall, Tubescreamer type circuit, and I’m assuming EMG 81. I think it would sound great in a mix.

I’m going to go ahead and assume you’re talking death metal because of the stuff you post lol. The death metal band that comes to mind for me always for forward mids is deicide with their Marshall’s. I tend to lean scooped but they are one of my favorite bands all time. Both can work.

For basic muted rhythm work in what you're playing scooped is fine but you need mids for when you start playing voicing like you do at 29 sec. which will otherwise get lost in a mix. but if you're recording you just overdub a mid focused track on top of those parts. Live, you might want an EQ pedal to turn on for certain parts.
FWIW, as I was typing this the section came on where you raise the mids and it instantly perked up my ears in a good way. More grind came into the sound and it had more growl, instead of mostly rumble w/sizzle.
I would probably mix and mash both sounds in a recording for different dynamics and feel.

I think they scooped the hell out of their Marshalls and overdid it sometimes.
Think Tampa Florida Morrisound Death Metal which obviously had a big impact on the scene.
Here's another Clip i made today. I guess that's more to your liking, regarding the sounds you typically go for.
Straight in. All knobs pulled.

I guess I should’ve emphasized newer deicide, not the super old stuff
