I just sold a guitar last night on Ebay and the buyer used Paypal. I had planned to ship the guitar Wednesday afternoon. I just checked to see if I could move the funds to my bank account yet and I seen where I don't get the funds until the buyer receives the guitar and is satisfied with it. I understand that the buyer needs some way to keep safe but holy crap. I might have to wait 21 days for my money. I contacted the buyer and told to call me tomorrow because I think I'm going to refund him his money and close my accounts. Ebay and Paypal can go screw. Their both overpriced anyways. Not to mention running a racket.

Not disagreeing with most of what you said, but I think the 21 day hold goes away after you get your feedback to a certain number. Still sucks though. eBay is a buyers market in more ways that one

Yeah I've had that happen to me a couple times. After you get 25 positive feedback reviews in what they term "high risk" categories it goes away but until then you are screwed they won't do anything to release the funds even if the buyer asks them too.

Great place to buy stuff. Truly horrible to sell at.

That's never happened to me, but I've sold hundreds of items on ebay. I certainly don't mind paying anyone for their services, but I also think the prices and fees are getting too high.
.

You should get your money when when tr buyer receives the guitar. Paypal confirms this via tracking number. That happened to me a few times

Isn't there a feedback count where this doen't happen. I never had it happen but have had sellers ask me to please leave feedback so they can get the funds. I guess they want you to build a reputation first. If you maintain good feedback your risk level goes down. They are tired of paying claims because of poor sellers. They have always responded very well to me as a buyer. As a seller I have not had anything but a couple of minor issues with a couple of buyers trying to get over. I worked it out with the buyers.

Low feedback as a seller. Ship the guitar and make sure the seller leaves feedback as soon as he gets it. Your funds will release in a couple of days. It's to protect buyers from the many shit heads selling on ebay. It's not PayPal, but ebay policy.

I buy small shit from there but I rarely sell anything anymore. It's too risky anymore.

I buy on eBay. I quit selling years ago and there really is little protection for the sellers. There far too may shady buyers who are really tire kickers who'll buy...get exactly what they auction stated yet dick around trying to get free shit or substantially discounted by making shit up. Plus with the auction fees and pay pal fees its not worth it really anymore.

I'm in exact opposite position, I got a seller who didn't ship my item & won't refund my $$$, gonna unload on this asshole when I get my money back. Yeah paypal can be a total hassle.

When they first enacted this policy (a couple years ago?)I wrote to them about it....the were very understanding....lol. I told them as unfair as buyers might feel...does it make any sense to make the seller bear the entire burden?

Again..the were very understanding....not.

Fact is they know it's if nothing else a last resort for many sellers who cant sell locally.

I always held/hold the money anyway....never had to return it because I'm always good seller. I've had a few say "well I have to get the money together" for return....I'm like ...you SPENT IT ALREADY?

There actually is some seller protection...but the system can take a while

EBay's 10% fee makes the last few things I sold on Ebay the last. $750 fees for selling a few guitars. Screw them. I remember the old days of Postal Money Orders. No PayPal or Ebay

Check out the site: https://reverb.com/

Never used it but looks like a good alternative. They charge just of 3% of the selling price.
I've been using this site to buy and sell. Lower traffic than ebay but it just works. My go to site from here on out.

Everything you buy on eBay gets eBay bucks that you can use to buy other stuff courtesy of the last guy you just bought from. It's quite annoying as a seller that part of the fees you pay is basically kicked-backed to the buyer. As a buyer, I like it because it reduces my overall cost. I haven't sold on eBay for a long time because it's not worth the potential hassle or cost.

I hate paypal, they jacked me twice. one time I used my paypal card to take money out of atm, the 260 got stuck, then sucked back in atm machine. the managr of the store witnessed it and said he would talk to someone if they wanted. I called paypal, and they refunded the money almost immediately. about 3 weeks later they took the money back and said I had to deal with the atm company. they never, ever answered their phones and would not respond to emails. I told this to paypal, and never got the money back. this next one could be part my fault. I never read all the paypal rules. I sold a guy some gear locally and he asked if he could use paypal. I said sure, do it right now and when the money goes in my account you can take the gear. he paid, took the gear, and that was it. a couple days later, paypal says the guy filed a claim saying he never received the gear. I said that he got the gear. they wanted proof of shipping. I said it was a local deal and that we met in person. they said the buyer said he was waiting to receive in the mail and it never came. the buyer was a sheister who knew the rules and abused them. he was refunded the 500 and I was out my gear also. paypal has a monopoly unfortunately. I wish I could avoid them.

Last week I logged into Paypal and it said my account was limited. I could not send or withdraw my money that was in there. The only way to restore my account was to provide them a valid credit card which I did, then I had to prove my identity to them by uploading a copy of my drivers license. All that to get money that is mine, that they are basically holding ransom in exchange for my personal info. Then they send me a survey asking what I thought of them!

I'm shutting down the acount once the money is gone. F them. I have another PP account linked to my business checking that I buy tons of equipment for my business with. The Ebay bucks I get from that are nice but other than that they can suck it.

The buyer and I found a work-around. PP Gift. I've been idle on Ebay/PayPal for 6 years and just sold a guitar this week. Had I known the new policy I would've never listed it to begin with. The fee's between the 2 when you sell and then collect from them are crazy. Guitar stuff is like dealing with old cars...You almost always lose money. It's fun though
