Good on the string Mike. I have had buzzes in certain spots on the frets and always swap the string that is buzzing immediately if I know the frets are good. Sometimes they get small indents under them where the hit the frets and it causes issues like buzzes and sounding dead.
Good things sometimes happen to those who deserve it! Hang in there and maybe your Suhr will be taken care of.

Don't give this guy a strike three man that's an unforgivable dope fiend move. I am sure you can still trade it for a nice guitar with how popular suhr's are now. As long as your upfront and honest I think you would be surprised how much value is still in the guitar might not be a J custom but something of quality none the less. I would probably just hold onto it myself maybe throw some clear nailpolish on it and have a super high end gigging workhorse. As for your so called "friend" I don't think anyone would blame you if you castrated him totally justified

Maybe he truly believes nothing was wrong with it and during his presence, nothing ever happened to it. Maybe someone else opened the case and pulled out the guitar like a kid or something while no one was around. Could be lots of things.
You've complained all thread about being livid, even airing the laundry on the internet. Are you sure you didn't reach out to the guy in such a way that put him on the defensive?
I know if this happened with my oldest friend, I would be looking to resolve the matter, not speculating on who is guilty of what or inflaming the situation further. It's just a piece of gear. It won't show up at your funeral by itself.

As mentioned. I loan things out, but only to my buddies. They all work and have money. They could replace anything the same day.
On the other hand they lend me things because they know I can replace their stuff the same day. And they know how obsessive I am about such things.

How long did you lend it to him for? Show him a pic of the guitar before you bought it. If he is in denial about it he is lying to you and he isn't your friend. Then take him to small claims court.
