That's awful for that to happen to a beautiful Suhr. he must have dropped it, that's more like a chunk than a chip. Never lend your friends guitars or women.

Yet another data point keeping me from lending anything more valuable than a current-production BOSS pedal to just about anyone.

Sorry that happened, man. I'd get it refinned and chalk it up to an expensive life lesson.

Good on the string Mike. I have had buzzes in certain spots on the frets and always swap the string that is buzzing immediately if I know the frets are good. Sometimes they get small indents under them where the hit the frets and it causes issues like buzzes and sounding dead.

Good things sometimes happen to those who deserve it! Hang in there and maybe your Suhr will be taken care of. ;)

Well, eat the cost of a refinish. Write off the friend forever.

A real friend would have owned up and paid for a refinish.
What were you thinking, lending out a 3K guitar?

karma...when this shit comes around it's gonna be like getting T-boned by an Amtrak. :gethim:
it is really depressing him not owning up to it. Its situations like is when you find out what friendship means.

Btw... Just wondering... Why would you lend out a $3,000 guitar? I wouldn't lend out one of my beaters.

Actually, I just showed my wife and we are both pissed about it. Unreal.

I have lent out $6000+ guitars without issue. I know this sounds bad, but I never lend gear out to broke people. If they dont have the means to replace a guitar I lend out completely then they dont get to borrow it.

I never lend anything to anybody, ever

Even a 3$ CD, I know it'll come back scratched or I'll just never see it again. People just don't give a fuck. And if they do, they don't give as much of a fuck as I do.

On another note, this thread just shows how materialistic we've all become.
29 year old friendship, gone
For a ding on a friggin guitar
Does it still play like a 3000$ guitar?

I can assure you I am the least materialistic person there is. I know when I lent him the guitar it was flawless. its the fact he is saying he didn't do it that angers me more than anything else. it still plays and sounds ok. it might have slight tuning issues.

Don't give this guy a strike three man that's an unforgivable dope fiend move. I am sure you can still trade it for a nice guitar with how popular suhr's are now. As long as your upfront and honest I think you would be surprised how much value is still in the guitar might not be a J custom but something of quality none the less. I would probably just hold onto it myself maybe throw some clear nailpolish on it and have a super high end gigging workhorse. As for your so called "friend" I don't think anyone would blame you if you castrated him totally justified

This.

I let a friend borrow my 30K invested Heritage Softail custom Harley. He is a coworker and has the means to fix or replace it.

A perpetually broke friend? No. Just no.

But then I have sealed a couple thousand dollar deal on here, had it shipped, with only my good word.

Gotta know who you are dealing with.

Maybe he truly believes nothing was wrong with it and during his presence, nothing ever happened to it. Maybe someone else opened the case and pulled out the guitar like a kid or something while no one was around. Could be lots of things.

You've complained all thread about being livid, even airing the laundry on the internet. Are you sure you didn't reach out to the guy in such a way that put him on the defensive?

I know if this happened with my oldest friend, I would be looking to resolve the matter, not speculating on who is guilty of what or inflaming the situation further. It's just a piece of gear. It won't show up at your funeral by itself.

I wasn't talking about you directly
Just the fact that you let him borrow a 3K$ guitar tends to show that you're probably less materialistic than me and others on here.

Your friend is being human
People lie, and people avoid confrontation
In this case, he's doing A to do B
I'm not a fan of that, especially at that age (he's no kid)

I agree, it would bother me more that he didn't own up to it or apologize , not so much the damage on the guitar.

I would not trade it for anything else. besides that J Custom I played, I have not come across a neck I like better. My three favorite necks I have played are this modern, a charvel custom shop I owned and the J custom I played a few weeks ago. I have never been an Ibanez guy, never even considered it really, but after I played that one, I thought a lot differently about Ibanez. It was a very high quality guitar that played effortlessly, a little more than my modern even, and sounded great.

I thought this guy would fess up to it. I never had a problem loaning a guitar or amp to anyone. I have lent out guitars a lot of times, for recording projects, just to let a friend play a guitar they like, etc. I guess not anymore.

It sucks doesn't it? And then you'll eventually end up looking like the bad guy because you don't want to "help a brother out"

That is no friend.

not anymore he isn't. I called one more time and said, "look man, I wont be angry if you tell me what happened, obviously it was an accident." he actually had the nerve to get fake angry at me and raised his voice and said, "I didn't do anything to your guitar, it must have already been like that and you didn't notice!" so, I have written him off. I was paying back his favor. He let me borrow a killer guitar, but I kept his guitar is perfect shape. a friend would not do what he did today, so I am washing my hands of him.

Never ask for someone's guitar and never loan out your stuff. Always keep 1 guitar and amp no matter how broke you are. The reality is that if you need money so bad you cannot keep one amp and 1 guitar, the money you raise from selling them will not matter. Selling them will cost you more in the long run when you rebuy.

If I had to file bankruptcy all my good stuff would go into hiding and I would not mention that I owned them.

As mentioned. I loan things out, but only to my buddies. They all work and have money. They could replace anything the same day.
On the other hand they lend me things because they know I can replace their stuff the same day. And they know how obsessive I am about such things.

How long did you lend it to him for? Show him a pic of the guitar before you bought it. If he is in denial about it he is lying to you and he isn't your friend. Then take him to small claims court.
