Got a LPC coming in and it's got a JB and an alnico II; assumed I'd ditch the JB immediately for something more boutique, but I checked some vids and it sounds pretty fuckin gnarly. My experience with the JB has been in Jacksons and I always hated it in those....anyone rock a JB in a big heavy guitar and think it'd slay in a big heavy LPC? If not why not?

Bareknuckle aftermath, Suhr Aldrich, both sound great in those....at least to my ears.

I'd say give it a shot first to decide if you like it or not. Not every pickup needs to be "boutique" ;) What body wood did you have on your Jacksons? I find the JB to work fairly well in a lot of different guitars...I have them a few different bodies but never tried one in a LP. I do have a Duncan Custom in my 57RI LPC and it is killer (that particular BB7 LPC is all mahogany, no chambering) and believe yours has a maple cap. the Alinco II probably will sound killer in the neck position.

Not sure what you style you play but I'm an 80's melodic/metal/neo-classical guy and I've been getting into lower output pickups and loving them. I have a set of Duncan Antiquities in my R7 Goldtop LP and they are killer! I have 36th anniversary DiMarzios in my Trad + and they work well in that LP too.

BKP RiffRaffs or BlackDogs if you want some serious growl.
That's why

Did you have a chance to play that exact guitar that you are receiving before buying?
Because it depends on how your LP sounds. So I'd wait until you hear it and then decide.
The JB might work if the guitar has an inherent tight, percussive low-end.
If not, you might need something to compensate.

The Motor City 2nd Degree Black Belts beat the Aftermath and the Black Dog hands down in my Edwards John Sykes LP.
Not even close. The BKP's sounded ordinary in comparison. And I'm a lover of BKP's.
Just saying. :D

Give it a shot first, you may like it.

I've experienced that before, where I will like a pickup in one guitar but not another. I love duncan phat cats in a les paul, but tried them in my Telecaster and hated it.

I have a JB in my silverburst LPC. I love it with ebony fb's. But Im not a JB hater like so many are.

THIS.

Pickups sound different in different guitars of the same make and model. It's just the differing wood combinations.

The JB is a SOLID pickup. I had one in a PRS Singlecut and I loved it. I also have high end Suhr, Anderson, and Motor City pickups in other SCs, but the JB is great in the goldtop.

Lotsa people dog the JB, but I have t found a time or guitar that I haven't liked it. Try. Decide. Repeat.

Jerry Cantrell got some great tones from his JB loaded LP's and the G&L...

Agreed, they can sound pretty sweet with Mahogany. I'd give it a shot.

Either of the above or BKP Miracle Man

For a LP, Any of those are a hit.

I just got my Edwards John Sykes back today. I had my tech install some pickups and do a coil tap. I gambled on a set of Duncan Black Winters. I say gamble because there were virtually no reviews on this pickup in a LP. The Black Winters are a damn good set for a LP. A lot like the Distortions but a little smoother. Very responsive. A lot of grind to them too.

The Black Winter set is another great option.

I have both the Distortion and Miracle Man. The Duncan has more gain and is brighter. The Miracle man more smooth and kind of bright too.

Figured I'd give it a fair shake; ordered an A8 mag, if it sucks I'll make it better. Thanks all!

I prefer the Miracle Man over the Aftermath because they are a bit brighter.

If the A8 mag doesn't work I have another Warpig sitting here. This one is gonna get tuned to drop C for sludgier stuff so the Warpig will work...

Well, guys like Billy Duffy have rock that combo with great success. I've had one in my Les Pauls for years. Sometimes they sound great, some times not so much.

Do what I do. Watch one of of those Youtube videos where Ola or Keith play the same riff for like 35 minutes with different pickups. Play it in the background and just sorta listen while doing other things (like at work   ) . When you hear something that speaks to you, go look at the video and see what they are playing!
