Hi guys,

Right now I'm using my 2204 with a DS-1 clone in front of it and it sounds awesome, but I would like to have a amp that can do that and a lot more without a pedal.

Should I be looking at the CCV? Or Friedman? Or Fortin?

I'm really looking for a 2203 with more gain and bottom + more possibilities. Not too tight!

Any advice?

I'm looking for a Mastodon type of sound without any pedals.

Trust me on this. Send your amp or get a stock 2203 to Briango2000 and let him work his magic!!!! Best move Ive ever made.

If you want to keep a Marshall vibe I'd go with Friedman.

edit - I don't know Mastodon, I just know of the amps mentioned IMO the Friedman keeps the most of the natural Marshall feel and voicing.

Don't waste your money shipping an amp to the U.S from Denmark, there's probably plenty of Marshall modders in Europe closer to where you're at especially for such a common platform as a 2203.

You just described my Perplex'd. It's a shame Glen doesn't get the recognition these other guys get around here. I know it crushes my old Splawns. And I know of one guy who forgot about his Fortin mod immediately after he demo'd one of Glen's amps.

Isn't Tommy Folkesson? in your part of Europe. The vids of his mods have been fantastic.

Mastodon uses fuzz pedals into a JCM800 to get their tones... why would you want an amp that does that sound by itself? It would likely sound pretty bad if it did. I would modify the amp if you are able to solder. I think a lot of the popular modifications are very easy to do and have a great effect on the sound since it's such a simple circuit. Do you have a Big Muff?

Send it to Dan Gower in the UK for a Cali mod!

Chupacabra.

This.

The Chupacabra is a straight-up modified 2203/2204 with a Jose Master and a few other goodies.
