So, when is when? The family is moving the coming summer, and we are liquidating stuff as to save costs of moving. I am selling just 1 axe, maybe two, but my only amp(which I love), the EVH 2x12 combo I am having a hard time selling. Not cuz I can't...I have people wanting it...I was thinking of selling to preserve space in the trailer we plan on towing...but I am having trouble selling it cuz I love it. I keep telling myself to get another when you get situated, but crap...should I just wait and sell it closer to the move date? I feel like I don't want to be without an amp for 7 months...

Then again, part of me is like...maybe you would like to try the JJ jr? It's light(22lbs) and you can get a cab anywhere...

On a side note, I plugged my moor 005 brown sound into my EVH clean channel and it's not nearly as good as the amp by itself. I thought I could just get by running the pedal into logic with IR's...but it's just not the same for me...although sounds pretty good that way.

Keep it man! If you have a good one that you love... Just keep it.
The market is soft right now and it wouldn't make much sense to let it go if you don't have to.
KEEEEEP IT!!!!

Yes. Selling my Wayne Charvel now. Don’t want to.
But got lots of stuff. And this sale is for a family reunion vacation.
So I will take the hit. :aww:
But yes I know what your going thru.

I’ve done that before and regretted it. I don’t know the whole circumstance, but sounds like you’d regret it. I’d keep it.

looks like we're going to need a bigger trailer

a little scared of that. I get with guitars one is different from another...different wood, different tree. But mass produced amp should be fine??? Although not mass produced, nothing ever compared to my first Splawn Quickrod. Had 4. 2 from same year...never could replicate that sound from the first. Just had mojo. People would come up to me after our set and be like "man, your tone is killer." Never got that with the other three, so either i sucked, or something? LOL

I've sold a Wizard and am in the process of selling several other amps and a guitar all of which I enjoy quite a bit but I am in the process of shifting my financial priorities. HATE to see this stuff go, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do; it's just gear.

Seems amps should be the same, but there’s always differences, sometimes noticeable sometimes not. Each component (resistors, capacitors, etc...) has a tolerance of + or - some range that makes it acceptable or not. Sometimes you get lucky and get an amp where all or most all components are in the plus side and the amp is amazing. Sometimes you get an amp with most or all in the minus side and it can be a lemon.

I remember reading a story where Kerry Kings original JCM was like that, Marshall inspected it to see why it sounded so much better and everything was on the plus side. That was the basis of his jcm model.

Found that article:

“I know and trust the guys at Marshall,” King says. “I sent the Beast over there once before to have Jim Marshall sign it. When the technicians checked it out, they discovered that this particular amp was the ‘golden child.’ Apparently it was one of the rare ones, where all the parts and variances were perfect for my sound.”
“That amp hasn’t been modified in any way, shape or form,” Bowcott says. “It’s completely stock. Component drift and tolerance deviations have made that amp something special and—as Kerry sometimes says—the ‘golden child’

I sold a good deal of stuff last year to fund a new business venture. It was tough for sure, but has been good to let some of the stuff go as honestly I still have more than I can use.

Some key questions that I asked:
- How easy is it to find used?
- How unique is the item, have I customized it a lot?
- What is it worth on the used market? What is it worth to me?
- How much am I using it and do I think that will change in the future?

Answering those questions will help you figure out what to sell, but its just going to be tough.

I know the feeling well. I sold my CCV when I needed to pony up cash for my wife’s wedding ring, and recently, I had to sell off my Gemini, just to stay afloat. When it comes down to it, the toanz come from the fingers, the nice stuff is just icing on the cake.

Dude, I love my JJ Jr. I need to get a cab but have been playing with it for months just going direct. Great little amp! With that said, if you dig your amp just keep it. It is not that much room and you'll probably regret ditching it.

BTW, where are you guys moving to? I thought I remember you living down in Virginia?

I am fortunate to not have to have been in that position. I have things that I regret letting go of in favor of other things, but that is maybe one or two out of a hundred. One was dumb a few months later, but it led to a trade for a ESP Horizon which I never would have gotten otherwise. There are always other opportunities.

I just sold off $3000 of gear last few months.
Not that I didn’t want it. But I don’t need 14 guitars and 8 amps.
I liked them. Guess I’m changing gears. Wanna eventually get down to 1 amp. 1 guitar. ;)
Hard letting the kids go. But for real I barely play anymore.

This. HUGE truth here. In fact, although I've sold any EVH I owned the FIRST one was special...I figured this out after I sold that first one. I bought 2 more over the years and they didn't even approach the first one I had, and the cab has been here forever so it wasn't a cab issue. But this goes for any 2 of the same exact amp..they won't ever totally sound the same.

If you love yours DON'T SELL IT!!

Differenr here but kinda the same..I have been a welder for 20+ years now and have used many different machines, but at a company I used to work for they bought 20 new huge Miller welding machines, and once we got them all setup where they would be located I went around and checked them all out..without changing any settings on any machine they all welded differently..some needed more or less heat..more or less wire spreed etc..
So like you are saying sometimes you get one where everything is just right and don't want to let go or you get a lemon..for me I would keep the EVH 2-12" combo if it sounds that great to him.

The way I see it is that there is always going to be great gear out there to get when you’re able. Other than certain guitars you just click with right away
