I spoke with a vintage dealer, and he said that the fair market value for a last year authentic San Dimas Charvel HSS with a Kahler Pro (if the guitar is as clean as the pictures indicate) is between $1800.00 to $2200.00 USD! He also said; "Do yourself a favor, and stay off the internet..."

TrueTone500 signing off! :salute:

So why didn't he buy yours?
Because he offered him $800 for it.

^ exactly.

Even if this "vintage dealer" had said that the fair market value is $1,800 (which we all know to be a load of shit), he certainly wouldn't have offered that to TrueTone500 because the dealer would need to leave some meat on the bone for himself. He would probably offer 50% to 60% of fair market value which, frankly, basically takes you back to Steve's offer of $900!

Take it or leave it, TrueTone, 'cause it's all you're gettin'.

Well, Steve was right!

It seems the older pointy San Dimas guitars aren't that popular right now. A local guy who owns a 1985 has run into the same issues as me, and his has some nice looking graphics on it. VIntage dealers are giving me value quotes based on opinion - not true street value. It's too bad to, because it's a really nice guitar. I remember back when dealers couldn't keep these guitars in-stock.

Thanks!

I love the setup of the guitar, but my hand cramps-up if a neck is too thin. It's really not that thin of a neck, but it is thinner than what I've become use to. I'm currently playing Gibson R0 w/thicker neck, '52 HR Tele, and EBMM EVH.

Let's put some faces to this picture, shall we...

 [/quote]

When my dad went to GIT in the 80's, he called someone about a Jackson that was owned by Steve Lynch of Autograph(that zig zag black and yellow guitar on the front). Well, the guy called back and it was Steve Lynch, he was back East, but said he's having his friend sell his guitar out in LA. It was only 400 and I thought in his story it was a Jackson, but looks like it's a Charvel. He ended up buying a Jackson soloist instead.

Lynch had a Jackson with the same paint scheme (or it could have been the Charvel with a new neck)

I look at this in comparison it to my white HSS, and I wonder how the retail value of this guitar is $2499.99 - yet mine is only $900.00? It's also advertised as a "San Dimas", yet it is not a San Dimas made Charvel. Does Charvel build these in the old factory?
There is also an eBay ad that features two beat to shit Charvel pre pros with spider web paint jobs that the seller has listed for $150,000.00. Just because he's put that price on it does not mean he's going to get it, does it?

There is a difference between fantasy and reality in pricing...

The guitar you posted would still fetch far more than yours. It is a recent Charvel Custom Shop guitar that was probably custom ordered for ~ $2800 new. It is also a strat head, which most prefer and more importantly, it doesn't have a Kahler. It has some fucked up features most Charvel buyers don't dig (like the three hums and separate switches) which is why it won't fetch the $1600-1800 he'd get if it was a 1 or two hum guitar.

Will he get $2599? Will you get $1300 for yours? Anything is possible if you wait long enough and someone falls in love with it because they are looking for exactly what you have. Unlikely... But anything is possible... Make sense?

Steve
Makes sense, but a my HSS San Dimas is not a production guitar. I spoke with Thoroughbred in Tampa about this particular HSS before purchasing a Jackson San Dimas single humbucker model. Thoroughbred requested the configuration, and that's what Charvel built. I had an offer in '11 for $1650.00, and didn't sell it. Offers have ranged from $1650.00 down to $1100.00 USD. I don't care what anyone else thinks it is or isn't worth. The fact that I've had a $1650.00 offer on means that someone out there thinks it's worth $1650.00 USD. For you, or anyone else to say anything is worth a specified amount of money is completely narcissistic. I get what you're saying, but the evidence indicates you are incorrect.
1.) When did I say it was a production guitar. Oh yeah… I didn't… All original Charvel's were custom built…
2.) The '11 offer makes my point. Anything is possible as I said and you ignored. Someone, somewhere wanted that exact guitar three years ago and was willing to pay you way over market for it. IMO, you should have taken the offer - you may not see it again for many years to come. Of course, SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE may SOMEDAY pay you $150,000.00 for that guitar, so why don't you put it on eBay for that? By the way I offered you $900, so the offers have ranged from $1650 down to $900.
3.) I don't and didn't decide your guitar's worth. I am simply giving you information about what the market in general will bear for your guitar now if you want to sell it anytime soon. It's just silly to call me (and everyone else in this thread) narcissistic for telling you about the current state of the market - this isn't about you or me, it is about market value right now.
4.) All the evidence actually proves that I'm correct. It is just impossible for you to understand because you are analyzing the data being put in front of you in a very strange way...

Steve
So what you're basically saying is that the market is fickle, and I'm being stubborn... I can accept that. It still doesn't mean my guitar is only worth $900.00 USD. :D
I'm saying that the fair market value is $800-900...

The Charvel sold for $1450.00 USD.

Walking into plate glass windows has obviously effected your cognitive brain function... What a maroon! :hys:

there is a sucker born every minute.  There are folks who buty brand new at full retail too that could knock off 15-20% but they don't ask -- it doesn't mean the market is 15-20% higher, it just means you have an uninformed buyer ;)

So now you come back to gloat... We all thought you were kind of a douche before, but you've pretty much confirmed it now. Congrats on the sale. Too bad your buyer wasn't the smartest guy out there. Either that or he had money to burn, was uninformed, or REALLY wanted the guitar.

What a dick-head! So according to you, vintage Charvel buyers/collectors are stupid, uninformed people with money to burn... If I'm a douche, you must be daddy douche. :salute:
