Serial Numbers on Listings

Is it even a thing anymore to block out part of a SN when selling? I did that on a recent listing and got someone asking to get a pic of the full serial. Considering GC often shows a pick of the whole serial in it’s used listings and Sweetwater will list serials on new guitars, has the counterfeit boat sailed on bothering obscuring a partial?

I just read a problem may be, people getting the serial, filing police reports that the guitar was their’s and stolen. Trying to scam the guitar. Somewhat easily disproven but a headache nonetheless.

I don’t usually include a closeup in the listing, but I don’t block it out & gladly provide it if a buyer asks.

I see no point in obscuring serial numbers, license plates, and etc. in photos. It's kind of silly and paranoid behavior.

Just listed a guitar on Reverb and I have the last couple of digits blacked out. First response I got was asking for a pic with the full serial. I replied with the serial written, no new pic. I guess I’ll see if I get a lot of requests for pics with the serial showing. I actually understand why as a buyer I would like it to be visible but there’s just so many ways out there for people to seem to fuck with you I guess old habits die hard.
