So I sent the guitar insured for $2500. The original scan at the post office (receiving the item) did not change for 10 days. I called main USPS office, talk to duschy manager at the post office where I sent it from, everyone telling me the same thing I can see on the tracking website. After 10 days it finally updated as received in Denver ( I shipped it from Colorado Springs) thats about 50 minute drive. Even if someone is walking that thing there is too slow. So now it has been already 4 days since it got received in Denver and hasn't changed yet. I mean its 15 days in route.
Anyone ever experience something like that? I'm shipping guitars for 5-6 years now, never had this issue.

I sent a couple pickups that were supposed to go from Ohio to British Columbia using USPS. It showed on the tracking website that the initial scan occurred at my local post office, then nothing for about 4 days or so. It then showed up as a scan in Cincinnati, which is about an hour from my local post office. Then, much to my surprise the item was waiting for me in my mailbox when I got home from work. I took it back to the post office and they said they must have though the return address was the delivery address. They put it back in the mail and it got to it's rightful destination in 4 days after dropping it off to them for the 2nd time.

USPS has improved significantly in the past couple of years. I hope these two experiences are outliers. :aww:

why on earth would you ship using USPS for anything over $100 in value..?? Their tracking is a joke

Not only the tracking but there are allot of misent items because of the fully automated sorting. I would never ship anything of value with them. Good luck on a claim also with them. Not too long ago I was having major issues almost one after another.

Have you had something shipped Priority in the past year or two? It's MUCH improved.

really? Earlier this week bought a mic and the guy shipped it USPS and typical tracking not updating...

They lost 2 packages worth >$250ish last year on me...

I work for USPS and am major pissed at them as well on the fuck up that just occured.
Shipped an amp to a member here in New York 3 day Priority mail. Ok....no problem.
I insured it for 2k. Needed a signature. Again....no problem.
Amp Arrives in New York. Then the dumb bastards ship it back to Michigan. I had the "TO" very noticeable.
So it goes back to New York and was left behind a building with no one signing for it.
I am just glad the new owner got it fine.
Assholes.

I picked up a couple of pedals from one of the online retailers. They were shipped out. They were received and scanned at the post office. Tracking number hasn't moved since Nov. 10. They re-shipped to me with this morning with priority and the other set is still not found. Strange! Retailer was great about it, no issues or hesitation. First time I had this issue with USPS. Every other time has been super reliable.

Had a buddy in MN ship one of my pickups he borrowed...dude was cool and shipped it two day. It took 11 days to get here, during which time according to tracking, it went from his place to my state, got sorted, went back to MN, got DELIVERED TO ME WHILE IT WAS IN MN, then shipped out again and got sorted and then it dropped off the map for a week, then randomly showed up in my mailbox yesterday.

WTF?!

Was it first class or Priority?

Our office has gotten the new scanners (Like fed ex and UPS use) and it uploads data like every 3 minutes. Tracking has gotten better. But not all places have these. Sucks. We are so behind the times. :aww:

I shipped a pedal to a member about 80 miles from me using Priority. It should've arrived to him in 1 to 2 days. Instead they shipped it half way across the country and back. He finally got it about a week later and wasn't very happy. He knew it wasn't my fault but it's pretty frustrating when you track it and watch it go right past your house and keep going. And they wonder why they can't compete with UPS and FedEx.

Not sticking up for them. But......the Post office bought off all the old clerks that new what they were doing(Like GM)
and hired a bunch of goofballs at barely above minimum wage. Sad to see a service decline like this.
I used to be proud of where I worked. Now I do my job and go home and collect a check.

I had a recent issue with USPS that happened once before three years ago as well for international shipping.

In 2012, I had switched the service from Priority Mail to Express Mail for the client (Italy) before shipping. Printed out the shipping label, sent the tracking to the client. He emails me back and says it's marked to go to ICELAND. WTF? Checked my copy of the label, sure enough it got switched to Iceland after changing the service to Express mail. I ran to my USPS drop off location, got the package, and put in a corrected label, had to wait six weeks to get credit on my card.
Fine, at least I caught it.

Four weeks ago I wasn't as lucky. Same scenario, only the shipping destination was Mexico. Client switch to Express Mail from priority mail. I made the change, printed the label. I didn't double check the label. It went to Monaco (France). It sat there for ten days until I was emailed by the client that he hadn't received his two speakers. I contacted the USPS and told them how the mistake occurred and to ship the speakers to Mexico.

Nope, they shipped them back to me and I had to reship them to go to Mexico. The USPS tech support team got my detailed instructions on how I input the label, what computer, what browser, what OS, yada yada. They sent me a credit to my card.

I've got hand it to my guys who packed the box. It went about 14,000 miles round trip from So Cal to France, then on again to Mexico with no issues. Those BH75's have a good 18,000 miles of travel on them now, and took over a month to get sorted out.

At least they didn't get damaged or lost, but Jeezus...the online tracking was a joke, the change in country was a flaw in their code, but at least they took care of the credit. Hope they've figured out the flaw in their code.

I'll be triple checking every label before they go out now, even if the service isn't upgraded.

When all packages come in the morning time for the clerks to sort.....we used to have to memorize the addresses and sort it by memory. Now they have this big "Scanner" thats hanging over head and the clerk just walks under it holding a package and it 'reads' the address and tells the clerk in a robot voice what route it goes to.
We have alot of missorts daily. Clerks are no longer required to know the 'scheme' of the city. Welcome to the age of computers.

Software can and should be far more reliable than people. However, people write the software, often very poorly.
