Shipping Rant !!!

Before the holidays I dropped an EVH stealth head off at the local shipping center to have it boxed and all of that ... well I was gonna send it out via ups since the place offers both them and fedex. Well the lady tells me it is going to cost 354 dollars to ship the fucking thing, but if I use fedex it will be just under 200 bucks ? Why in the hell was there such a huge difference ? I haven’t used ups in a while for big packages but for smaller stuff they are normally reasonable. My jaw hit the floor at the pricing she gave me from them :doh: .... fedex ended up getting the business.

USPS is under $100...

Just gotta buy a box ($10) and some peanuts or packing materials ($15) and box it yourself.

Anytime you use Fedex Office or The UPS Store to pack n ship, you'll always pay way more in just the shipping fees alone than taking it to the hub and paying direct. But, you will have the insurance guaranteed when you have them pack it....claims never get paid unless they pack for you. They always weasel out of it. I had a Marshall combo get literally impaled, and needed a new speaker and grill cloth. I filed the claim and was turned down. Only way to protect against that would be to pack it in a road case.... :doh:
 
I’m getting ready to ship an Amp in a few days.
I’m double boxing it. Going to use fed ex ground.
Usually bout 75 bucks give or take.
Would use USPS. But with it being double boxed. It’s too large.
 
Yeah when possible I use USPS.
Think in the hundreds of things I shipped. Maybe 4-5 claims.
Super easy. Did them online.
Payed by check within the week.

I had no problem getting FedEx to pay when they trashed the EVH Stealth head I shipped. I put the declared value at $2200, which is what it sold on eBay for (I know, much cheaper now). I packed it myself, though just in the original box and packing materials. They sent me $2200, shipped the head back to me (I had it repaired) for free and refunded my original shipping fees of around $80. Worked out pretty well for me, though I hear they only insure up to $1000 for musical instruments.

Also, I had a guy drop off a '72 Marshall 1987 head at the local pack/ship place. They charged something like $25 to pack it up and another $60 to UPS it to me. Worked out pretty well then too. That was this past February.
 
Those places bend you over. Big time.

I paid $62 to ship you the JSX. When I shipped the Triple XXX, it was $98. 60lbs. from Florida to Minnesota.
