Shit.....

I think its kinda an old classic muscle car with a blown V8 vs the shitty import honda with the retarded wing on the back and the 3" exhaust.
The unwashed masses think whatever is in front of them is cool, but the driver can tell the difference immidiately. Unfortunately the muscle car is a bitch to drive day to day because of the gas mileage due to its sheer size, motor and weight.
As for now, I'm sticking with my old muscle cars..
But they rarely if ever leave the garage

The faux marshall wall behind you is a good idea....people like what they can see as in "crowd" it's gotta look the part. kinda like electronic drum kits on stage...it just don't look right...even to the pedestrian bar/club attendee

[...]About an hour later, my wife pokes her head through the door and asks if I have a new amp because it sounded really good compared to the other ones.....I about shit myself. Probably 20,000 dollars worth of amps around here and cabs and I get told that this $500 box direct through the PA sounds shit hot.....

You were playing some cheesy balad stuff, just admit it... :gethim:

The modeler probably sounds more like a recorded tone.

Still, as people -- being creatures of emotion -- rate the actual experience, not tone, you'd probably get away with using this at a gig. Makes you think how much money we spend for basically just our own subjective experience... :D

(Don't tell her)

  I saw this and thought you'd like it...

Yeah--the "wall of doom" or even a half-stack these days is overkill. Played a club gig last night with my JCA22H and JCA24S 2X12. Was still way loud for the place. Challenge these days if you're not mic'ing is getting above the drums.

Yea but to be honest, when I have good tone on stage I play much better. People always say it sounds great out front....... reason being most of them don't know better. :dunno:

My point exactly. If the vocalists sound good and there are no train wrecks you could play an electric kazoo and most people would not be able to tell the difference.

Somebody else said the number of notes played is inversely proportional to am out of sex the player gets.

My wife likes the old used DSL100 best of all my amps. She says "it just sounds like rock and roll".

The last 6 or so bands we went to see, the main thing was the mix. Only a few had the guitars set fairly right. The biggest issue is too much bass and kick. Seether and My Darkest Days, good bands i like and buy their CD's. They sounded like a sock full of turds because of the mix was muddy. Nobody cared really, they were having fun partying at the concert. Only the guitar nerds gave two shits. Like you said, they could have been playing electric kazoo, as long as it wasn't a train wreck.

I wish I could plug my guitar into my phone & it really sounded & feels like a stack..... till then ....

You don't have the little iPhone amp app? I saw it at Best Buy. Wtf is that!

My phone is old & I do not use it much. I use the web for communication more than phones. I checked out that app on a friends phone. It is not as bad as you might think. I am sure in a few years what you can get on your phone will be much better than any of the digital gear around right now. As far as gear goes I believe it is much more the user than the gear....

I have been told the difference between good & bad guitar players is good guitar players do not break strings ?

I must be amazing because I've still never broken one string. :)

Steve, I feel you on the modeler thing. I gig with my HD500 into a tube power amp or into the board and it sounds soooo much better than our other guitarist's rig (but that's partly because he's a door-knob when it comes to tone  ) and I am pretty happy and don't feel that I need a "real" amp on stage. I still prefer the real deal for completely pure cork sniffing goodness, but for live, the modelers are great! I can't wait to check out a Kemper!

Oh, I'll still have the cork sniffer wall of amps. This AFX plunge has nothing much to do with that. For me, it will be more of an experiment and looking for some consistency and certainly looking forward to some portability. Like I said earlier, its not important that patch A sounds exactly like amp A, but close. It will be the response and feel I am most curious about and the biggest obstacle to climb over-or around. Fortunately, I am not in a position to have to sell everything for an Axe rig. So, I won't have to force myself to like it. If it proves to be too much, and it could, this will probably be one thing I won't lose my ass on

If so....I know a buyer for the AXFXII.....
Cant give you full retail....but close to cost.
