Shorting Jacks for Mono/Stereo Cabinets?

The idea is to wire up two independent circuits for mono, and have them split when the shorting jack is used (breaking the connection between the jacks) and connected when the other jack is used in mono. Is this a good idea? Do you trust it?

I don't trust it. I cannot give you a scientific reason as to why, but I don't.

I'll use Cliff switching jacks over the Switchcraft every time, because of the wider and more solid contact surfaces. The Switchcraft has that dinky little dimple, and I've never trusted that for speaker level signals. For instrument & line level stuff, it's fine.

I looked into the Cliff stuff, and agree there. I'm still not convinced I should wire my cab with a switch. I think I would rather it be true stereo and use two cables for one head in mono than have a switch fail and take out an amp.
