Perfectly said. Sometimes less is more, Viv can shred but he was never in a race like most guys.Badronald":18rbm7v7 said:Awesome. Great tone and playing.
He definitely has something special. A percussive style all his own. Wasn't trying to play like everyone else during that era.

How was the singer? He sounds great on the album, but some of the live clips I've seen have been underwhelming, especially on the Dio material.

Absolutely man. Viv just oozes feel and tone. He can turn on the speed when he wants but really for me as a player, there is nothing appealing about Collen's playing or tone. But Viv's had a nice paycheck for two decades playing second guitar so can't blame him. And now he's gotten to cut loose with Thin Lizzy several years back and is getting back to his roots with his Dio music. Good for Viv. One of my all time favs.scary groove":3mv0dvx7 said:Vivian is just killing it. No disrespect to Phil Collen, but Viv is so much better IMO. Too bad he does not get more soloing opportunities in Def Leppard.

No it doesn't have that Gary Moore' ish fire of that Vivian displayed on the first Dio albums but there is really some fine playing.

The Riverdogs just released a new album called "California". It is available now and definitely worth checking out. Rob Lamothe, Nick Brophy and Marc D are all with Viv on that album![]()
