I just bought a Eric Johnson fender Strat and want to change out the bridge pickup to a hotter one. I have no ideal what’s good in single coils. Can anyone recommend a really good hot bridge pup. Thanks

Do you want a true single coil or hum cancelling stack or a side by side single sized humbucker ?

I like the Di Marzio FS-1 which is like 25% hotter than stock, or an SDS-1 which is like a P90, very hot true single.

The old tried and true SD quarter pounder has never let me down.

Looking in there site. It’s says flat Pole pieces or staggered for an extra 10 bucks. What does that mean...lol...I know nothing about single coils so sorry if I sound like a dumb ass...
Original single coils had staggered pole pieces and it has stuck. I kind of hate them and get flat.

So go with the flat ones?
The staggered pole pieces were originally to balance the output across all the strings, particularly with more rounded fretboards. Most current string sets are much more balanced now and fretboards are flatter than they were in the past. I personally prefer flat over staggered, but it's not a huge deal.

For a hotter bridge pickup, I think it comes down to what style of music you're more into. If it's more SRV, EJ, blues-based stuff, you can't go wrong with the Lollar. If you're more into rock (Yngwie, Gary Moore, John Norum, etc.), I'd suggest the Dimarzio FS-1. I think it would pair really well with your stock middle and neck. Anything hotter, and you might have to fight a bit more to get a good balance with your other pickups if that matters. It's super versatile and can get surprisingly heavy.

Lollar actually has a link on the site someone already provided explaining the difference.
