When I think of crunch I hear Cantrell's Spider Bite in my head. That tone sounds like glass crunching under a sledge.

His tone on Degradation Trip is one of my fav's ever. Especially Spiderbite and that massive as chord he strikes at the first of Castaway.

Nail on head with Cantrell: Good amount of SIZZLE!!

An example of "FIZZY", but engineered so that it "works": Starts at 0:32

I was talking to a buddy this morning about how my Ecstasy has major sizzle. I define that as those really apparent top end harmonics and overtones combined with a spongy sort of amp response.

Yep. Totally agree with the "sizzle" and "sag" on a Bogner.

Hearing someone describe an amp tone as "chewy" makes me wish upon them a sudden, uncontrollable hot turds problem.

The reason why I didn't like the 5150 combo, though it improved plugged into a 4x12.

Avoid the Bogner sub-forum for your own good then.

i interpret "chewy" as something that applies to lower mids in an amp, that you can actually feel responding the way you play.....

XTC, Blue Channel, mid-gain, noon on the MV. It's a burbling, gnawing, chewy, gorgeously rich tone. It ain't dry. It ain't surgical. It's juicy and rich.

Like a nice ribeye perfectly BBQ'd.

Fuck me I think I'm losing my mind with "guitar talk gone wild" :hys:

It would be interesting and useful to have a glossary of tone descriptors.

Ask an ye shall receive.

And I am almost positive the terms and definitions themselves will warrant serious discussion amongst us opinionated RT'ers.
