I needed a new 4U rack for my direct rig built around my G-System and Triaxis. I don't need something industrial strength and found a brand new 4U SKB rotomold case at a great price / free shipping.

I've been using SKB ATA cases since the 80s and have no complaints, did not spend the extra this time, but stayed with SKB.

So I load up all 4 spaces, and the front lid doesn't close, not even close. The lip of the lid doesn't have enough clearance at the bottom or top if it's fully loaded.

I have a 4U rack case with 2U worth of gear in it now; I could probably get 3U in it max. Return shipping is not worth spending money; figure I'll have to use this as a home studio rig and just leave the covers off all the time. Waste of money IMO. If it is 4U, it should hold 4U worth of gear IMO. Crazy concept maybe.

I have my Triaxis and G-System in a 3U, and my Engl E530 in a 2U; wanted the option to have these in one 4U rack, then look to get a small MIDI switcher to switch preamps...

I emailed SKB last week, no response, no satisfaction so I decided to post this.

FU SKB.

Can't agree. sorry. I have been rockin that exact case for years for my in ear system. I bought it because its a shallow rack. small footprint. Says so in all literature. Ten inch depth. Not standard. ;)

I had one that did the same thing and it's not an uncommon complaint if you search the interweb. I currently have a 3-space that's alright.

I have the standard not the shallow 10" rack, the depth is fine. With 4U of gear the front lid does nor clear the gear at the top or bottom...doesn't close / can't latch the lid. The lip of the lid goes inside the lip on the case, this is where it doesn't clear the gear. If the lip on the lid went outside the case lip, it would work.

I stand corrected. That there does suck :(

Well, now at least I have a rack for my future studio gear!

Are ya knobs too big?! :D

Nope. Thought of that too. Plenty of depth in the lid for the knobs...it's the lips, not the knobs! ;)
