Been hooked on "Youth Gone Wild" lately. I found it at Walmart several months ago for $5. Although I've known their hit tunes for years, this is the first I've ever really gotten into them. Good stuff.

 Good tunes and good tones. got my second copy at garage sale .50

One of my favourite ballads

I cant remember their screen name, but someone here on the forum owns the same model rivera used to record these albums. I remember We had a topic about what Michael Wagener used in the studio during that recording process. Pretty sure that "Ask all" topic is still on the forum.

first two albums were great... don't know much about them since. Sebastian had the best voice from that time... IMO

Classic stuff! I remember seeing them live as a kid and they were great!

:)

It was an MP-1. ;)

That's a band I should not like but I did. Saw them on the Slave to the Grind tour & they were great!
Sebastian's recent stuff is unlistenable though

Excellent band, they have really rcoker songs from that era, my favourite is "youth gone wild" and "I remember you". great band, excellent guitar tone and nice solos also.

:)

From Wagener himself it was a Rivera TBR1

I'm not sure what the model number for my Rivera head is. It's a dual 120W stereo head and it has a knob to adjust the input impedance to fit it with your particular guitar. It was extensively used on Skid Row's "Slave To The Grind" album and on Saigon Kick's first album.

As i said before the question was also answered here on the forum with our own Q&A with MW himself.

The MP1 that MW owned was ran through a Mcintosh solidstate power amp and used extensively on Extreme's album at the time :)

I believe the story was they used whatever on their first album. MP1's some Marshalls etc. Then they went out on tour and Saigon Kick was opening for them and they got a tour long education in tone from Jason Bieler in Saigon Kick. They got the same Rivera amps and Boss Overdrive pedals Bieler used.

Same thing happened when Rough Cutt was opening for Dio. Vivian Campbell duplicated everything Amir used and went so far as to steal Amirs guitar tech Dallas.

agree.....but then again so is everything skid row have released since seb left   ...........obvious answer there  . Subhuman Race is a great album as well although the production was in the bob rock "anti" production phase so sonically it doesn't sound as rocking as the first 2....anyone else noticed that once bob rock has produced a band they start to fall apart (motley crue, metallica, skid row  )

Cool background info

A tour long education in tone

What was Dave Sabo using back then before wolfgang's?

Whatever they were using, the tone was...marginal. Loved the band, the songs, everything...except the tone.

From M.W. -

"The setup for the guitar sound for the EXTREME sessions as well as the first SkidRow album and White Lion's "Pride" album (in most cases, not on all tracks) was a Furman PEQ-3 into an unmodified ADA MP-1 (version 1.0, still got it) going into a McIntosh transistor poweramps (2100) into an original Marshall cab with 4x G12H (30W). The mics were, if I remember it right: Fostex M11RP Ribbon, Countryman lavalier and possibly a SM57/58 going into John Hardy M-1s and from there via a mono buss into a UREI 530 EQ and a BBE 802 then to digital tape (Mitsubishi 32 tack)"

Have their greatest hits (40 seasons) somewhere... haven't listened to that since forever
Remember seeing them (minus Bach) opening for Nugent and Kiss back on their "Farewell" Tour... was hearing loud buzz and hum after 2 songs... never go to a Kiss concert without earplugs
