Yeah, outer slots on a normal Simul. I use the EL34/6L6 mix in my III, but when I get my IV, I'm gonna run all 6L6s to try to make it as smooth and round as possible.

Gainfreak is the MAN when it comes to GREAT settings and the MKIV, I'm sure you already know, but in case; he is a REAL good source of info. I humbley step-a-side for him to comment. He has a Coli as well, and has played a bunch on mine and am sure he could get you that tone from a MKIV as easily as breathing in and out (assuming no respiratory condition, extra large Bong rips etc... that is). :D

Yeah. He has a Revision A Mark IV and runs all 6L6s in it. I know his preamp tube setup as well, and I believe his powertubes are =C= SEDs. He hates V30s though and I love them. :( At least he likes the Mesa Trad. cabinets with V30s. :P That's what is next on my "to buy" list. This avatar cabinet just isn't cutting it anymore.

I love it that there are places like this where most of the people understand GAS, and the Search for the Grail of TONE. There are many directions to the road that leads the way. 8)

You ever try those half-back metal grill Mesa cabs they talk about? Everyone says they sound crushing with the Mesa Mark amplifiers.

YA, Funny story I took my 'Coli' up to Hollywood Mesa to replace apower switch that I snapped off and get retubed; when I went to pick it up, the teck plugged it in to a half back 2x12 w/ EV's to "test it", I noticed that he had the Master set on 3-4 and was sitting right in front of the amp and cab while plugging in the guitar. I told him hey tat's pretty loud man, and he looked at me with this "I know what I'm doing look" and I said OK, while plugging my ears. He hit 1 chord and literally fell backwards off the stool he was sitting on. Stood up looked at me and said, "HOLY CRAP! This Freakin thing is REALLY LOUD!" I of course was laughing in histerics and told him I tried to warn you. As he then admitted that he had never seen one before in person. The only thing I don't like about the metal grill cabs is if you play just loud enough, the grill rattles and when recording that sucks. I'm sure there are numerous fixes for that issue, but the cabs look way cool and sounded really good.

Hahahaha! That's great!!! I've had my Master on 3-4, but my Lead Volume was only on like 1 or 2. ;)

This J/O had the Lead Master on 8 with the lead drive on 7 w/ the MASTER on 4. It was RETARDED, freakin STOOPID LOUD. I knew what was going to happen and just smiled while watching this idiot get floored LITERALLY HAHA. Evil, yes, but so delicious when some ass hat tries to brush you off like you don't know anything and in reality, in this particular instance, he was a self-proclaimed expert who "knew what he was doing". A paper tech in that instance.

You know what, that can be fun too. Do that then hand your guitar to some unsuspecting guy to jam with then ask him to switch to the clean channel and hit a power chord. He'll Soil himself with the HUMUNGOUS Volume jump.

I've done it to myself already. :( I set it up that way when I'm playing dirty so I can get some more powertube saturation out of it. Just gives it a different character. Also, pulling the R2 knob gives it yet another slightly different character. It enables another gain stage on the preamp section.

It's the same thing Kage. The head was called the 300 and the combo was called the 115.

Yup, the only thing I am unsure of is whether or not your has the Simul-Class circuit installed. Other than that possibility, SAME THING!!!! :D

Thanks again and Best of luck on your tone journey. If I can help ever, shoot me an email anytime.

There were some awful, messy wired, outright poor conceived racks put together back in the day...just the same as there are some dorky, overdone trends in gear today too..BUT, there are a ton of guys on here w/ killer racks, well made and logical... mine took 25 years to get it to where it is; it is used in the studio and toured with, and every time a client plugs in, they comment on how it sounds and feels just like playing straight into an amp head...but being WAAAYYY more versatile....one cool thing w/rack gear is that you can single out certain processors and preamps and configure them to do exactly what YOU want them to do...(and not be confined to thier own 'menus' as much)....Nowadays, you can see many pros using multiple heads w/ a rack in the background....weve came a long way!

6 channels isn't enough if you're going to run 4 stereo units in parallel, but yes you can use that mixer other than limiting your stereo possibilities from all the processors.

,,,thanks,,was not trying o show my rig off,,as it is small and modest,,but is lethal when put beside my old ECSTASY OR HERBERT and all the stompboxes,,,which i sold to start this project,,,not regretting the sell of any one of those,,just kind of got tired of using heads that were sounding bland after a few months,,,thus my 3+SE preamp was modded before it ever left the CAE factory,,had the 2nd channel modded to sound more like an early JCM800,and i love those PCM units,,they are truly state of the art and warm sounding ,,being as old as they are,I am running MONO at this time,,mainly because of so much other stage gear our band has gives me room most of the time for only one cabinet,,,everything runs through a GROUND CONTROL PRO,,The PCM 70 and both PCM 41s are relay switching only,,but the PCM 80 is run midi so i can change midi programs on the fly,,thats the only neat thing about the GSX GROUND CONTROL PRO,,is being able to run midi and relay switching simultaneously,,i do have a VHT 2150 power amp,,,but that thing is a bear for weight,,and the dual mono bloc 50/50 MARSHALL sounds pretty damn good when driven,,and not as heavy,,as the funds become more available,,i most likely will replace the ROLLS PATCHWORK SWITCHER wih either a BRADSHAW or a RJM SWITCHER,, may most likely get the CAE RS10 as well,,but for now,,,,its cool except for a line mixer,,since im running mono ,,i may try the YAMAHA 6 channel line mixer our keyboardist gave me to run my FX units through to see if it helps,,if i can figure out how to do it,,peace out,,Randy
