A combo is the most practical solution for my needs, mainly due to transport and smaller venues. I really love the BE100 but its just not practical even with a 212 cab. So can a small box combo with a boost get me anywhere close to the hbe?

Thoughts/advice?

Sure it can. The HBE is just a small boost on top of a BE channel. So yes a pedal can get you there.

Any thoughts on using the Seymour Duncan 805??

Theres TONS of gain available in the combo. It boosts great too.

Yes, I have one. It's not bad, but it has a little grittiness that I don't like.
I like my Keeley modded SD1 better, because the sound seems to be more neutral.
