Smelly NGD :(

I picked up a really nice Gibson Les Paul classic from someone over at TGP. It plays really nice, looks great, but it's a little funky smelling. What do you guys use to clean a stank-ass guitar?

Classic post... Man, I've never heard o' day but make sure they're ain't some meatloaf or manstarch or puke in/on it. Guitars see it all, maybe take 'er apart and clean 'er up.

Dude, I bought an 80's charvel that smelled like pickles. Like this fucking dude would eat a jar of pickles and play my Charvel! I used alcohol to clean the board and then used 0000 steel wool to clean fretboard. Apply orange or lemon furtinure oil to fretboard. Smells nice. Use orange oil on all my fretboards, it is dry in Colorado.

I know it is a joke, but DO NOT spray anything with alcohol in it... it will ruin the nitro the finish.

You could spray a bunch of cologne into the air and wave the guitar around in the same area.

Thats the problem with buying something on these forums and eBay. You sort of never know what your getting. I bought a JCM 800 amp that had a weird odor one time. I had to sell it on craigslist because I would feel bad about shipping it to someone and them opening it up and find a stinky amp. At least craigslist they saw what they were getting.

This. When I bought my Soloist brand new, the inside of the case smelled like old gym socks. Had to Febreeze that fucker into oblivion and air the case out for about a week.

I bought back a BC Rich Gunslinger from a guy I knew. Evidently, he smoked the world's cheapest, shittiest cigarettes, and evidently never allowed one to go out before he lit another. I opened the case and nearly passed out. Then I got heart palpitations and crapped my pants from the nicotine assault. When I came to, it smelled better thanks to all the poo in the air. I also bought an ibanez RG565 from Vinnie the Guido in Joisey once...the Cologne he sprayed in the case removed the paint from the wall, and caused two light bulbs to explode. What do people think some days??

I bought a used Mexi strat off a guy on HC and it reeked of cigarette smoke. Luckily it is gone now, but man that smell is hard to get out.

On another note my Taylor 914 is the best smelling guitar ever. I know this sounds weird but i actually enjoy putting my nose up to the sound hole and sniffing it.
