Skid. Fucking. Row. Riff city. Snake & Hill were a force. Scotti's leads are his own. He could so some shit I didn't hear other players from that era do. I wish I had some of his phrasing capabilities.

One of my fave bands of all time and STTG is a staple to this day.

...oh yeah, F SNL. I haven't watched it in 20 years and today it is just abysmal. ...Except when Bill Hader was on and Ryan Gosling not able to get through skits.

I honestly like rap. Most of my favorite music is either punk rock, sludge, Doom, death metal, grindcore and 80's and 90's hip hop. To me in general main stream music sucks these days. I thought it was me just getting older but I work with a lot of fresh out of college kids and they say the same thing for the most part whether it's rock or rap
I really like early 90s hip-hop and rap.Early Cube, Dre, Snoop, Westside Connection. It's all good stuff. I think even those guys don't know what the hell is going on with what's been happening in the last 10-15 years with hip hop.

I don't know why this made me think of it but Warrant hired a guitarist to do the leads on their first album then their guitarist played a dumbed down version live of what was on the album. I saw them open for Motley Crue when I was a kid and just hated it. I was front row and back then I tended to appreciate bands more after seeing them live.

As much shit as I've given Skid Row over the years they were a bit heavier than their counter parts that came out around the same time. I can't see them doing that and they had interesting leads you could remember.

I can't believe you guys are not into Gunna ?
The SNL performance wasn't his best.

Love me some Faith No More and Skid Row! I was rocking out to the Slave to the Grind album when I was a teen for a while back in the day! Still loving that album today!

I honestly liked The Chronic back in the day and Run DMC, LL Cool Jay, etc. That stuff was more musical, accessible, and less vulger/obnoxious than modern rap. I can’t listen to modern rap at all.

SNL is part of the prop up and support the Hip hop / rap movement that's been going on for ever. The music industry and Hollywood keeps that hip hop garbage in most of their soundtracks and anyone that listens to music in a movie their choice is rap. I won't even talk about this last Super Bowl halftime shit show. In my opinion its talentless and doesn't deserve all the attention it receives.
Yep, garbage.

Speaking of Skid Row. I thought subhuman race was a good album. I think it was their heaviest album.

I think last season they had Foo Fighters, Jack White (who filled in for the Country guy who didn’t follow COVID protocols) and Killers. Earlier this season a female performer did her second song accompanied by Lindsey Buckingham.

Let’s be real, rock isn’t as popular as it was in the 60s-90s. That could be for a whole host of reasons. How many newer rock artists are putting out decent songs? There’s a reason the Black Album still sells like crazy. I’m hopeful a band will come along with a rockstar attitude that has their own thing to say. Not a band that sounds like another band - you know who I’m talking about.

Looks like the televised performance isn’t on YouTube? That’s the performance I remember most. They just destroyed on Monkey Business. It was ferocious. Pretty sure amps are both Boogie MKIIIs.

20:03 - Monkey Business
I've got a copy of the televised on my other hard drive, i should upload it

Skid Row had their chance to go BIG time and they blew it.

I think current popular hip hop (popular does not mean whatever top ten) is the best it’s been since the ‘90s, but the honest truth is that hip hop and indie are bigger than rock these days. There is so much more money there these days. Popular entertainment like SNL cater to what viewership wants to see. SNL has been weak for decades now, but I still tune in occasionally, and it’s never for the musical guests.
