So Apparently Roger Watered Down Thinks He's above Ozzy

Why anyone would defend or minimize the ozbournes and their well known Fucked up business enterprises is beyond me but every addict /co-dependant / alcoholic needs a web of enablers to survive so there ya go.

Of course it's beyond you, you can't see past your own nose, dude.

They gave careers to dozens and dozens of bands over the years, taking small local bands and putting them onstage on Ozzfest. Whether or not you like those bands is irrelevant. You're hung up on Sharon burning 3 dudes in the early days of Ozzy's solo career, while ignoring the literal hundreds of musicians they propped up since that time. And two of those 3 had nothing but good things to say when Ozzy passed-

Daisley-
"This is a sad day and it has brought me to tears. When I reminisce about Ozzy's and my times together, I think about the fun, the laughs and of course what we created together musically, which will live much longer than these mortal bodies that we inhabit.

"My condolences to everyone who you've left behind, Ozzy. Nothing can change the true friendship that we once had; I'll see you 'on the other side'."

According to Roger himself, he wasn't a songwriter before Syd Barrett dropped out of the band. That's when Roger had to start learning how to write music.

Regarding the songwriting, listen to for example "Déjà Vu" from the album "Is This The Life We Really Want?". Lots of similarities in the writing style with Breathe from Dark Side Of The Moon. Also most of the songs in that same album have that familiar Pink Floyd songwriting going on in them.

Also regarding Roger relying on other people "to deliver the best Floyd playing/sounds they can": Know the difference between songwriting, instrument playing and production. If you write your own music, it should be obvious for you that it's really really hard to impersonate another persons songwriting style. But its really easy to copy/impersonate the production of an album (in most cases). Pink Floyd "production sound" is not hard to imitate. But imitating the songwriting is really really hard. I doubt the Pink Floyd part of Rogers latest albums is because he hired some third party guy to do it for him. It's most likely that we're hearing the original Pink Floyd guys own touch on those songs.

Well, Roger's own demos that were made after Syd died do not sound anything like Floyd. Not a single bit, at best they kinda did when he used a synth on The Wall demos and even then, they didn't really sound like Floyd until David and Nick showed up.

There's not a single shred of music in existence where Roger is the sole member playing on it that sounds like Floyd. Everything that does has other musicians on it.

And I do indeed write my own music and would argue the opposite of your claim is true, there's only so far you can go with production unless you have the skills and gear to pull it off. I mostly write metal stuff, but this would be the most Floyd sounding thing I've done-

TOLD YOU I COULD BE A DICK W/O COFFEE.
ARENT YOU THE CAULK SUCKER THAT BANT ME FROM THE LAME ASS "GEAR FORUM" FIRST TIME NO WARNING.
IM PREPARED TO DRIVE 5 HOURS ONE WAY TO MEET YOU AT THE TIME & PLACE OF YOUR CHOOSING TO SEE WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY
TO MY FACE YOU FUCKING TWINK.

You need meds, dude.

I dunno about being a dick, but you're definitely a dumbass. Maybe you should join that alternate rigtalk forum and help out those other dumbasses whom I've never met or spoken to, yet they feel compelled to write multiple page threads about me.

So let us agree then that we disagree on everything regarding this topic.

Your songwriting example does not have the Pink Floyd vibe, but the production has some PF going on. The songwriting sounds modern in pop kind of way. I.e. it doesn't sound like what PF would have come up with. That just proves my point even further.

When Gilmour said “That was Roger’s project” he was talking about The Wall itself, not Floyd as a whole.

Rick Wright, Nick Mason, David Gilmour and Roger Waters is what brought that famous feel to Floyd, not any one member.

As for Roger’s recent work sounding more Floyd-like, that’s because that dude relies on guys to deliver the best Floyd playing/sounds they can and is precisely why he’s had Jon Carin as his live musical director for a while now. Carin did the ‘87 and ‘88 Floyd tours and played on Momentary Lapse and The Division Bell, had a falling out with Gilmour in the 00’s and immediately started talking shit about him after Waters hired him, claiming he wrote some songs he wasn’t credited with, then miraculously Gilmour was able to post the demos of the songs Carin claimed were his, recorded before Carin was even involved.

Gilmour hasn’t wanted to do the Floyd thing for decades now. He didn’t even want to play a ton of Floyd songs on his recent tour because he’s been ready to move on from that for years and stated as much before the tour, much to many fans dismay. I’m good either way, Gilmour can play any song and I’ll love it because there is none higher on my Mt Rushmore. He specifically worked with a producer on his newest album who didn’t give a fuck about Floyd to further get away from doing Floyd sounding shit.

Listen to Waters’ demos of Floyd tunes before the band got a hold of them, they’re all basically folk blues tunes-

When he did the demos for The Wall they had a bit more Floyd sound to them, mainly due to him using synths to make the majority of demos, but still, didn’t feel or sound like Floyd until the other dudes showed up and did their thing. Even “Young Lust” was a folk tune before they came along.

These are freaking cool. Thanks for sharing!
