So exactly how does this 2FA work?

Does the RT server ping your email with verification code to enter every time I log into RT like Reverb does when I log onto Reverb?

Does 2FA have to be tied to a phone number or is the email adequate for 2FA?

Hello,

You choose when you enable it. Either you receive a one-time code by email, either you configure an authentication app like Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, 1Password, etc.

At this point there is no option for receiving the one-time code by text message on your cell phone (sending text messages costs a lot).

I'm up next but I use it all the time on all of my important apps and websites.

Need a new git

Glad you got it working.

Is there a way to determine if I have set 2FA properly by looking in my account security? I am using a mobile phone to do it using a 3rd party authenticator device (also on the same mobile phone)

Yep, if you go into your settings, there is a button that says "Enable 2fa". It will send the code to your email, it usually takes like 2-3 hours for some reason.

Thank you. This it what I’m looking at. Does it look like I did it right? That should mean I will be able to contact a seller in the classifieds as I don’t see the PM/start convo button when I click on a for sale ad, or the seller.

Yes, after you put in the code that you recieve in your email, it should work in within a few hours.

Ok, there is a button that says disable 2FA so I think I did it correctly. In a few hours, I suppose I’ll know if I can respond in the classifieds. Thanks

Does the forum software also support hardware key 2FA?

I intend to activate the 2FA. I cannot select Settings as mentioned by Japetus when in account details so is the 2FA activation in the passwords and security section?

Yes, that's it there.

When Japetus said "settings" he prolly meant the account settings overall.
So I just click on the change button in the two step verification line and it will activate 2FA to setup then which will in turn send an email for verification each time I log onto RT?

Sounds about-right bro'.

I'm no expert in these things 'cause I've only done it once, but yeah, sounds about-right.
