Anyone get to hear the afd at namm, any good?? Curious.

Most of these guys wont care about a marshall unless its modded by mark cameron or mike fortin, if they do answer they will say its ok but i will get a cameron or fortin instead.
its a waste of time asking about newer marshall amps around here.

Sounds about right. ;)

I hear ya on that, just figured some guys got to hear it first hand this weekend on a fresh ear's as their camerons and fortins are home.

You'll get some honest responses. I'm interested in hearing people's opinions too.

Not me. Even though I have a Fortin, I still own 6 stock Marshall heads and love them all.

The AFD sounded killer to me I liked the AFD side better than the #34 side. Very crunchy and articulate. I will definitely have one sent out to demo when NAMM craziness dies down.

Quick update on the amp, as it looks like I have the first "broken" AFD100 :(

Volume started swelling up and down, and now V1 has the bias error light on. Tried several different valves in V1 and every one shows an error. Must be something specific to the V1 power supply. Damn.
Twinfan":taoh3y2b said:
Well I picked the amp up yesterday, and the biasing is now working fine which is good! But the volume wobbling was still there :?

At the suggestion of Mrs Twinfan, I've just spoken to Marshall tech support and the actual guy who repaired it. How cool am I?

The bias problem was a resistor that had blown, caused by me putting some cr@ppy valves in (whoops!). The volume wobbling *may* be that I've got the power control on a crossover point, and moving it slightly up or down will cure it. It's not a liner 'pot' as such, but a digital control that might be between triggers. I need to get it happening again and raise or lower the power setting and see if it goes away. Something to try over the weekend.

So I've got to say top marks to Marshall for the customer service, excellent so far!

so yea, plenty of Marshall guys! and plenty of Marshall guys hopes Marshall hits a homerun one of these days.

Marshall hit a home run every time Dave Friedman mods one.

Yep. Before I throw down for a signature anything, and no disrespect to m'man Slash - love his style and tone, I'd buy a head that Dave recommends and then hit that bitch up with some gnarly mods. End of quest.

Only thing is, I'm not really into Marshall tone :dunno:

So it goes :D

Seeing as how the AFD is based on a modded Marshall, I don't see where the hate comes from.

That said, I love my Friedman modded Marshalls.

Well.......nobody answered Art's question. Only a few digs from a couple guys that have another issue regarding modded Marshall's. Surely some RT regulars visiting NAMM got to romp on the AFD a little bit.

66.3% of my marshalls are bone stock :)

Well..............the 77 JMP has a ptp board in it, came like that but a stock circuit.
