After our gig on Sat we cruised over to another club where a friend's band was playing. He uses an Anderson Cobra, Bogner Shiva, OS 2-12 w V30's and a mission control kinda pedal board....  It scared me!! He talks me into getting up to play a couple tunes with them. It was as I expected, a very dark tone. I don't know how you guys do it. He pointed out how to use the pedalboard, but it ended up staying on whatever preset he had been using. It was fun playing with them, we did an Ozzy tune and then finished up with some VH....fun way to end a weekend. :)

Love the Shiva's cleans but I do wish for more gain from the dirt channel, not really my voicing.

I believe they have changed some stuff though last year maybe??

He's had this amp a long time and loves it. Glad he found what he was looking for, he has tried a lot of things over the years like all of us. I don't see how he uses such a dark tone. All his pedals are racked and mixed with a Eventide Eclipse (for now anyway). Not sure what he had running

The Shiva is a decent amp. I remember at Paiges house i liked the Shiva with a boost pedal better than the XTC. But the Shiva clean tone is just SWEET.

I don't mind dark amps, it's the naturally bright amps that i can't stand. A really bright Marshall with not enough gain and no OD pedal is the last thing i want to plug into.

He tried an XTC first and didnt like it. I need to have more bite and attack personally, but I don't like an amp too bright either. There may have been an OD pedal on, I was afraid to step on the pedalboard and end up stuck on some weird clean tone or something. :)

Warplanegrey just got a Shiva combo, I saw a post over at HC about it

I liked the Shiva head I used to own, but didn't love it. The clean channel was great, I always wanted a little more from the drive channel though.

I will say the way the drive channel is voiced it sits perfectly in a band mix from my experience, the few times I played my Shiva live it almost sounded professionally produced from how well it sat in the mix.

I've thought about getting a Shiva several times. Can't stop thinking about it actually... Never heard one, so I'm not sure if it would work for me. I'm pretty sure the amp would have enough distortion for me and even if it didn't, there are OD pedals to make it work. I'm just worried about it sounding "muffled" or something. Does it have that vibe in a bad way or good way?

Not in my opinion. It's a classic Marshall voicing, but darker and smoother but not enough to make it sound bad in a live mix or sound overly muffled (to me).

The newer Shiva's have bright switches on both the clean and dirty channels to brighten it up and a "normal" effects loop as well...mine was an older one before the revisions.

I'm pretty sure the Shiva has plenty of distortion for your needs Chris, just not over the top for shredding/metal without a boost

I had one on my bench lately - very sweet amp.
With a pedal that adds some attack (not gain) for leads it would be perfect for me, just the loop (old version) sucks bigtime :D

I had 2007 and the bright switches helped alot. I know what George is talking about when he maans dark with the Shiva and the over all Bager lower mid emphasis but the new ones with the bright switch make it so if you dont like that darker tone, it can be made to sound so that the upper mids are more prominant.

Does he have a roadcase for it?

The Shiva was my dream amp before I learned about the Mod 50. I figure I'll just get the Egnater and then find a Shiva to compare it to, with the wait list driving used prices way up I wouldn't lose any money I decided to go the Bogner route

I'm playing a Legacy now, I love it but I just wish it didn't need to be so loud to sound good

How did it sound through the PA when your friend was playing? Was it still super dark?
Yes, it sounded the same out front.

The drive channel sounds like a better XTC Blue channel. It's more gain than a JCM800, but its really dark voiced like Bogner stuff is. I think you would get aggravated by it in a short time.

George, maybe I have a tip for you: bias it a bit colder and use STR chinese EL34s (or was it a 6L6 Shiva?) instead of the commonly used Svets, that solves at least 50% of the problem IMO.

its my friend's amp and is an EL34 amp. He's had it a long time and it does have that weird FX loop. He had to make some special cables with resistors to make it work. He absolutely loves it which is cool. He told me what tubes he runs, I think they are TAD EL34's or the GT Mullard copies.

Bogner amps have such a soft feel, slow attack to them. That makes them hard for me to play on.
