So the pope….

The number of catholic “churches” (for lack of the proper term) has reduced drastically in recent years in the USA according to news reports. I assume this will help that continue.
The bastardization of religion will continue, there are just too many “believers” who want it both ways. What’s next? Rewriting the Bible?
Exactly. Where does it end? Same sex marriage and homosexuality are verboten…period. In every major religion. Civil unions…fine. Marriage ceremony in a church carried out by clergy in official capacity? Nope…that’s haram as the Muslims say….but hey what do I know? Stuff like this should not be an issue. If you are gay and want to get married fine…go get married in a gay church that I’m sure exists somewhere. But no official religious body can condone this. Catholic, orthodox or Protestant. I am shocked that the head of the largest Christian denomination in the world is giving a green light on perversion. It’s heretical and apostasy all rolled into one. Can you be a homosexual and be welcomed into the church? Absolutely. Repent and go forth and sin no more. If you are gay fine. Just don’t be a “practicing “ homosexual. Now I have been told that to God, sin is sin….so I am no better than they are. I sin all the time. But like I said earlier-who am I and what do I know? If this is condoned then marriage is no longer holy or a sacrament. Maybe the deist’s are on to something.

I only read a short blurb about it, but I don’t think this “news” is allowing gay marriage in church. It just says that a priest can “bless a same sex couple as long as it doesn’t resemble a marriage”
What that means? I haven’t a clue.

Love the bible quotes. You all realize it was written by humans, not some perceived God right? Might as well quote Fox news.

Yes I read that. I mean why would you even involve yourself in this. It’s a no win situation. What is the reason for it? Not sure what his “eminence “ is thinking. And what is next?

Yes another "dogma" of the Catholic church is that the pope is infallible. Yet it seems individual Popes are at odds with each other on various issues. Not sure how they reconcile that given God is supposed to be immutable (ie. unchanging).

I’m not really sure either. As someone who is neither gay or Christian, my opinion is that it’s an attempt to “broaden the audience” so to speak for the church.

Still doesn’t make a bunch of sense though as it seems the church is the church, and that’s why people go to it, but “no homos” alienates a pretty big population.

But also I can’t see it making it seem any more welcoming to a gay person either.

Churches don’t exist to make money, but they certainly need money to keep running and numbers are down. Faith is free but the organization isn’t

Frankly I don't see the point in the church bending from its core beliefs to be one step behind society all the time (which keeps becoming more regressive or lefties would like to say progressive) which means it departs further and further from what the Bible says. At some point it becomes akin to a pseudo rotary club and not the church at all. What's the point of a church that has departed from the core beliefs of the Bible and its ethics and moved towards humanistic ethics. I believe if the church stands for nothing instead of the word of God (the Bible) it will become even more irrelevant.

We’re into that large gray area again.

AFA “broadening the audience”, Bud Light tried that too….some people never learn.

Kid rock is back in though, so it’s all good

He's referring to offerings... A lot of the offering goes to keep the pastor employed but of course some goes to outreach ministeries etc.
Yea. The actual brick and mortar of a church is quite expensive to upkeep. The tax breaks are nice and there are usually lots of volunteers, but money still need to come from somewhere to keep everything running.

I helped out my neighbor replace a steam pipe at his church over the weekend. It’s the most plumbing I’ve ever done without swearing lol. But that would have easily been a thousand dollar service call without me

I know times have changed and all that, and the wording is a little harsh imo, but I saw this the other day and it kinda made me think a little

The no homo thing….there’s really not a lot. Now there’s a lot of sympathy from large amounts of populations to their so called plight. And homos don’t produce babies which the Catholic Church likes. It’s just really strange. Interesting times for sure.
