So whats Eddie really using for this concert?

If I'm not mistaken there's pics of his rig from that and it was Peaveys

Gonna make the wild guess he had two SLOs hidden in the rig somewhere, but with Peaveys visible in the racks.

That's what I read somewhere...the infamous "hey I'm EVH....whadya mean you're not giving me free SLOs???" Pouted, walked to Peavey and the rest is history.

Considering that was nearly completely retracked in the studio, it's almost definitely SLO you're hearing.

It's well documented that Ed bought two or three SLOs around 1988-89 and went to Mike's shop in person to get them, back when Mike was still in LA. And they knew each other pretty well. But I've never read anything about Ed trying to get Mike to build him a line of amps. I've heard there was a quiet lawsuit between Mike and Peavey that was settled, but who knows? I have heard directly from someone who would know that Ed has used SLOs in his live rig when he was endorsing another brand.

I should add that I don't know if the audio from that live concert DVD is the same as the CD they released. But I read that Ed and Al heavily edited those tapes before release. So who knows what ended up on the released version vs. what Ed actually used for those two shows they recorded.

Nah he didn't want to have Mike build him a line of amps, he just expected freebies. Ed was irritated that no free SLO was coming, so when peavey approached him he said sure...clone this SLO. Lol

I've read that it was a 5150 combo through a Marshall 4x12 on several sites that discussed this. With loads of Eventide and other effects.

Pretty sure Mike was not going to hand over any kind of control to Ed, whereas Hartley would do what Ed wanted. I don't think Mike has made the slightest change to the SLO circuit since the first one, even though everyone says the loop sucks. Maybe he discussed making a special EVH model. But no way could he have produced it in the numbers Peavey could, at least not without outsourcing it ala Jet City.

It's pretty well documented, that Ed re-recorded all guitars, due his guitar was out of tune. Since he did that all the vocals were off too, so they rerecorded that too.
It can be anything.

Ok. Ed tried to work out a deal with Mike and Mike at some point made repairs to Eds Marsahll I believe. Ed wanted too much for an endorsement so no go. I don't believe for a second there's SLO there. And I don't believe there was a SLO backstage for a few reasons. Yes they rerecorded some or most songs and some were completely in the studio. And they were 5150s. Watch some mid '90 YT concerts. NY and Europe are a couple. It's all 5150 and it's pretty Marshally at times as well as a little too much Eventide. But overall his sound is consistent and killer. And the best part of watching those clips is Alex is on fire! He's killing it in the days before Balance.

I myself have doubted it was 5150. I have two half stacks and didn't believe they could sound so killer. After firing up my amps...it's all 5150.

I think that photo is from the time of recording the F&@$ album, as the Peaveys weren't done by then.

I'll say this much...believe it, don't believe, doesn't matter to me but back in the 90's I worked at the Amphitheater in Nashville, worked in the administration. Sadly the original Amphitheater is long gone, great times...especially for me when it came to gear and having an all access admin pass. Scorpions, Rush, Kiss, Dokken etc...you name it, if I could I scoped their rigs out. Sometimes you'd have a prickly tech, sometimes not.

In Ed's case...it was all there. Rig, guitars...easy to see. On those two tours it was all Peavey. No hidden amps or rack cases, no rehoused units...it was the 5150. In fact the only non Peavey amps that I saw were on the 2nd of those two tours and were Marshalls that were used for his piezo's. In fact the second tour he was playing his prototype Peavey guitars which his tech gladly let me see. Most of those rigs have been photographed and documented, it's out there and was exactly as I saw. Actually the most interesting thing about it was how open his tech was and on each tour his tech had numerous 6L6's laid out on a towel. I'm sure Ed played alot amps in the studio during that era but on those two tours, at that venue, what I saw were 5150 rigs. Was there for the VHIII tour as well but too busy to check the rig out...the album and tour tanked but I've always said, that was the best live guitar tone I've ever heard.

shame he couldn't work it out with peavey, never liked those Fender EVH era amps.

Less processed and killer raw fat full tone gad damn it:

Big fat Money has wicked solos... Damn Ed`s on fire on this.

I have both the Peavey and the New fender 5150III, they are almost identical on the red channel, the blue is different story.

I think it's completely within the realm of plausibility that Eddie used nothing but 5150's for that show... Not only could Eddie have whomever do whatever he wanted to the amps(modifications)... It's eddie. He would most likely sound great on any high gain tube head.

That said, I've read that he is the type to have his preferred amps off stage and mic those for the FOH. Not totally uncommon on that level shows/touring. Hence the question... What was he using? If he did in fact re record after the fact, as suggested earlier, then there's no telling, could be anything.
