I have longed for my Peavey JSX head back as I loved the tones of that amp with the Active EQ's....but I don't play enough larger gigs to warranty having a real amp/cab anymore so I default to the direct IEM approach at the expense of missing that 'feel' that your talking about.
I've learned to play with only one IEM in for rest of bands vocals/guitars and open ear for my vox/guitar/drums through a powered wedge. Loving the 50/50 of it.
