Witch one is the best and why?

I know George Lynch used Soldano for a long time. Also could I get that tone easy w/ a Mesa also??

Impossible question. It's totally up to your ears man. Mesa and Soldano are cut from 2 separate cloths. Mesa is a great amp, great tone, and have been aroundo many a band and stage and studio. Soldano is a special breed - they're unique and rightly so. But you can't compare them as similar "AB/Y" amps. They're very different.

Personally because I like and dig "unique", I'd go Soldano. But that being said, I've owned an SLO and a HR100+ and I don't have them any more. I've had a few Mesas come through my session space as well, and at best they were 'meh' to my ears. But the 'meh' is good - it's just too common for me.

The best one is the one you like to play more. If say both amps are excellent, but for the cost of a Soldano you could get a used Mesa for half the cost easily. If budget isn't an issue then I'd probably go with the Soldano, but I'm more than happy with my old Mesa.

I have had many Mesa's and a Soldano SLO, Avenger and Hot Rod 100...

Both brands are really great, but the Soldano amps like some volume behind them to get magic. If you are in a band and crank it up alot then Soldano is hard to beat.

I have owned an SLO and a few Mesa's, marks and a Rec.

SLO is awesome. Crunchy goodness. Perfect at what it does. It is an amp that likes to be loud. It has to be bat shit crazy loud to reach that sonic nirvana.

Mesa has many flavors.

I would say to play as many amps at as many stores as you can. See what people use in your favorite songs.

I have owned both.... they are both great amps. They are not very similar in sound.

The SLO is a dated 90's based tone. A pioneer of other models based off of it. It also lacks in features which is its selling point for the purists. Each to their own.

Mesa DR/TR/Roadster/Roadking all share a SLO based circuit with the tonestack in the effects loop position of the SLO. 5150's share quite a few things as well, as does the Framus Cobra which is another SLO variant and of course the 5150 III which is more of a 5150 based amp than a SLO.

They all sound different and have different traits. I have played them all at some point in time. SLO's are great amps but are beginning to show their age with the advents of MIDI and noise gates built into modern amps. For 3k quid i can think of many other models i would invest in before hand myself.

I'd take the Soldano for jazz with a skin flute and the MESA for all else...since you didn't specify your genre, style or what tones you are going for. Neither is a "witch".
