soldano slo 100 question

What do you guys think of this:

I am from Europe and I can buy an early 90's slo (recently serviced, retubed) for around 2,5K € locally... The amp seems in good shape and has a beat up original footswitch. I think this is a fair price? My question is: wait for the new slo to come available or buy the old one? Does anybody know how you can see the production year? First two digits of the serial number?

From a collectors standpoint I feel more for the old one...

2,500 EU is a good price for a SLO. That’s pretty much market price prior to the Soldano announcements that drove the prices to ludicrous levels.

And I believe all SLO are the same in there consistency over the years

Genuinely..if you pass this up let me know as I would likely buy.

Thanks for the advice guys. Yeah this one is priced ok and fair. I don’t understand the inflated prices. There are some slo’s for sale on reverb but prices are extremely high, to a point where nobody is buying!

It is because a bunch of nerds who are into "gear speculation" figured that SLO's would jack up in price due to them thinking they would go out of production. Mostly guys who just amp flip and don't actually play guitar.

I agree with everyone else, that's the normal price for an SLO up till the inflated recent prices. I've had 3, all of them were 6 yrs apart from each other and all sounded the same.
Go get it.

The prices have been crazy for some time, and right or wrong sellers are playing hardball. Will that last? I have no idea. However, since last October or so people have been warning it’s a bubble and claiming prices are about to nosedive, just as soon as Mike makes an announcement or something. Well, Mike has made announcements and prices have continued to climb from $5k to $8k since then.

People are offering $6k for used SLO-100s and being flatly refused.

I think it will become the same story again as it has been with other brands and their reissued gear... Ow the old ones are better then the new ones blabla... They are probably 99,9% the same inside.
Anyway I am going to meet u with the guy. I am not a flipper. I play and enjoy my gear. But these artificial prices are crazy. In Europe it is still possible to find a slo 100 for around 2,3K to 2,9k euro. The one I am looking at was made in 1991

Yeah, the first time I bought one in '14 I thought it was cool, but didn't blow me away...then I turned it up past 2.....WOW what a rush! I never heard an amp sound so good......of course since then I've heard other great amps like Wizards and 2C+....but SLO is a top 5 amp for me.

You could be right. However, a genuine plexi is still worth ten times what a ‘75 Super Lead is worth, despite them being almost the same amp. So there’s no absolute guarantee prices will ever come back down for “vintage” SLOs, even when the SLO-100 v2 starts hitting showrooms.

I must be looking in the wrong places then, as I sure haven’t found anything less than $7.5k. People just aren’t selling.

I found two slo’s in a month time here in belgium. Both under 3k euro... In all fairness I must say that the second hand market here is a buyers market for sure at the moment. It is very tough here to sell high end gear in my experience. I buy locally, sell globally ;-)
