Yeah the SLO is one of those amps where in person one with at least semi decent ears will get pretty quickly why it’s considered a great amp, but I still didn’t keep the 3 I had (including one from 1989)
For most of what I liked about it for leads I preferred the Purpleface and Cornford RK100. For riffs and more powerchord type stuff I prefer mostly those same 2 amps, Lenz Hot Chili, Steavens Poundcake, or the right modded or boosted stock Marshall. None of these amps 100% do exactly the SLO thing but after AB’ing so many times it just got hard to justify keeping them. I didn’t really have an answer of what scenarios I’d go with them anymore

		 If you like ultra tight low end the SLO isn't going to do that. I've heard worse though. That's where a boost helps. Yes, the lead channel has a ton of gain but much past halfway and it gets too compressed. Back it down and hit the front end and it keeps the gain a little more open and cleans up the low end a bit.
