I didn't know DeYoung was out? Will be replaced with SLO spec'd Mercury Magnetics, I assume? The DeYoung's were stout, and could easily handle EL34 power tubes. Would be cool if the SLO II were built to handle 2 x 6L6 + 2 x EL34 tubes, like a Boogie. If not both at the same time, bias to run EL34 or 6L6 tubes.
I've owned three SLO amps since 1993. The best sounding, by far, was my orange '93 no loop model. I should have held onto it. The Soldano 4x12 cab was not my favorite. I ended-up using a '73 Marshall cabinet...which I also sold.
The DeYoung I've only read on internet forums. I'm just passing on the scuttlebutt here, so perhaps I'm wrong, but people claiming to know Michael Soldano have stated that. I don't think they'll be Mercury Magnetics. That's what're in the Hot Rods. I think they'll go to a more exclusive manufacturer, but again no insider information here.
I've owned my '93 since the late 90's. It has the loop and the standard clean/crunch and bright/normal switches, but otherwise clean. It's the purple that has been so popular for Soldano over the years, and I really wish it was just black. I'm a simple guy, but I'm not going to bother changing it either.
I have two late 70's Marshall 4x12's with the original G12-65's in them. They match up extremely well with the SLO, and just about any amp I've ever paired with them. They've been constants for my rig for over 30 decades now. I've gone through dozens of amplifiers in that time, but have stayed with the same cabs......also, still have my guitars from then!
I don't go through gear like a lot of guys around here. I tend to buy and horde, but don't through nearly as much as a lot of guys. I sold the JMP 2203 that was my core sound when I came the closest to success and have regretted it ever since, so I don't sell things very often.
