Very nice! This is why many top guitar players still use the SLO behind the scenes! It can be tough on the ears, but a cranked SLO is hard to beat for tone and feel!

Thanks, I've always loved the tone cranked and love the feel and tone of leads, but have struggled to really like the feel for playing rhythm from day one with my first SLO. Sounds translates awesome but it feels weird and almost mushy unless you back off the gain. I'm dialing in way less gain than I use to and that helps, I use to dial it in to 7 and now between 3-5.

Well, it's not called the Super "Rhythm" Overdrive, is it?

:D

I've got a brilliant idea, Mike can start building an SRO "Super Rythym Overdrive"

Nope. Cranked SLO and how it comes alive at a certain volume. Reading comprehension man.

You still don't get it. By "it" I mean the topic of this thread. Your post was totally out of left field. And weird. That band and guitarist rocked, though. I'll give you that.

Khan is a Badass for sure.

You could say i wanted "thread participation" but was short an SLO.

I like SLO lead tones better than rhythm.

Ive come to love the creamy midrange of El-34"s as opposed to 6L6's.

I understand what you mean about EL34s. I run my SLO mixed with a Bassman. I'd love to replace the Bassman with a DR103 to add an EL34 vibe.

Thanks for checking it out guys, though I need to spend more time playing guitar and less time on here...makes me cringe when I listen back to these clips all the clams and mishaps. I think if maybe I took some valium first I would not clam up when the I hit record on the Zoom!

I've always wondered what an EL34 SLO might sound and feel like. Built with DeYoung Transformers of course but specifically built and designed for an el34 version SLO. Perhaps it would not be anything special and pale in comparison to the original and maybe why you don't hear much about it...or Mike just refused to build it?

I think Mike will do it either as a mod or special order. There was some clip several years ago on youtube of a SLO with EL34 tubes. I'll see if I can find it.

That sounds great! Thanks

Yeah, that is Mike's friend David Simpson's amp. Made with NOS EL34s (Mullards I think) and a special gold anodized chassis. It is the best sounding SLO I've ever heard.
