Thanks for digging that old Vid up Ron! Its a long time since that was done. 7 - 8 years? Haven't seen that in ages (playing is Meh)
I've been really getting into DAW recording along with different mics and pre's the past year (finally) and have a ton of clips of this amp - I just need to find some time to do some edits and post them. Also of his HR25 (loaned) which is quite the amp itself.
This Soundcloud is this SLO OD channel I believe with a single 906 on a vintage Marshall cab. this is last Fall - I'm getting much better at mic technique ect since this.
I'll try to get a clip with an R121 blended with the 906 or something else here when I can.
I somehow acquired a pretty good mic collection lately... :D

The playing isn't the greatest and it's just a bunch bits and pieces but if you listen on a decent labtop I think it captures it decent. I have had this 95 SLO w/John Suhr loop for almost 4 years now but honestly it does not get used much at all. At one point I had not played it for about a year but recently have plugged back in and if your ears can handle it it sounds freaking awesome if you can give it some volume. It sounds good lower but it's a totally different amp cranked.
I can handle it for about 2 minutes at this volume till it's just overwhelming or maybe 5 if I've been drinking lol. Not really safe for your ears but very fun!

Voume at 5 gain at less than half at 4. Friedman 4x12 with Scumback M75's

Here is another one set a little lower with the volume at 4 and gain at 5.

BTW - Nice clips/vids!

You could say i wanted "thread participation" but was short an SLO.

I like SLO lead tones better than rhythm.

Ive come to love the creamy midrange of El-34"s as opposed to 6L6's.

I understand what you mean about EL34s. I run my SLO mixed with a Bassman. I'd love to replace the Bassman with a DR103 to add an EL34 vibe.

I've always wondered what an EL34 SLO might sound and feel like. Built with DeYoung Transformers of course but specifically built and designed for an el34 version SLO. Perhaps it would not be anything special and pale in comparison to the original and maybe why you don't hear much about it...or Mike just refused to build it?

I think Mike will do it either as a mod or special order. There was some clip several years ago on youtube of a SLO with EL34 tubes. I'll see if I can find it.

So you're the one with the GOLD chasis SLO!?? That amp looks killer!

I still want it, David. :-)

(I've been bugging him about that amp for YEARS now)

Don't worry about it david no big deal I'm liking seeing and hearing your Gold SLO!

I love these clips! Congrats! and thanks for the SLO gas you gave me!!
Damn!

Sounds great! Love the clips!

That is what I love about my Soldano Hot Rod 25. Sounds almost exactly like a SLO but doesn't have to be ear bleeding loud to get that tone.

SJK, mind sharing the rest of your settings? I just tried this and, while it sounded awesome, it didn't sound like your clip at all. I first tried my LP with Wolfetone Marshallheads and then my Frankenstrat with a DiMarzio AT-1, had gain at 4 and vol. at 5. I'm running it at 50w through my EVH 4x12 with V30s in the bottom. If I could nail that tone in your clips, I'd definitely keep this amp, but I'm thinking of flipping it for a Friedman BE100 or Smallbox.

Yeah no problem

bass 9 oclock
treble 10 oclock
mids 12 oclock
presence 10 oclock

depth off

Also guitar is a 1980 Tokai LS80 LP with bare Knuckles rebel yell in bridge.
Friedman vintage cab with scumback M75 25W x4
just put some 80's Celestion G12-65's in this cab this week and it's awesome as well!

The SLO overdrive channel is just a perfect sound. I have a bunch of amps (Friedman, Bogner, Marshall, Mesa etc..) and none have them have the magic the SLO does. I LOVE my BE, it's near perfect and a lot more versatile, but honestly, the SLO is the only amp I've had that I can't find something to complain about. The clean/ crunch channel is ok. But the overdrive channel with gain at 3-4 is just the absolute perfect rythym/ lead tone. Articulate, with no bad frequencies. I have the depth mod which I use all the time.

Mine sounds best through my Friedman 412 with GB/ v30 mix. I think it's the perfect match. I have played it through my v30 only cab and an EVH 412. Friedman is best by far. I'm tempted to try some Scumbacks...

I have JJ 6L6 tubes, a NOS GE 12ax7 in V1, Sovtek LPS in V2 and Sovtek LP in V3-V5. I rolled a ton of tubes through it and this was the best combo IMO.

Just did this, forgot to turn the depth off, played for an hour with earplugs in. Sounded pretty good. I was using an EVH Wolf Spec with Wolfetone Marshallheads this time. My neighbors love me.
