I had $1200 into my near new SLO, which is the only reason I got it. I was happy with my Decatone before that. Then I joined a band where the other guitar player also had a Decatone and I still have a hankering for his amp. Sold my SLO for a nice profit after about 4-5 years of gigging with it. A lot of guitar nerds at gigs came up to chat about it. I'm also a strictly Marshall guy now. I'm sure BAD could get someone like Chris Merren to build trannies for them and it would be a huge hit.
And remember, when Friedman went from PTP to PCB and subbed out to BAD, those prices didn't go down a dime.
The Friedman situation is a bit different as he still has his hand in the mix (doesn’t he still go over and test each amp?). Plus, even though the amps changed to pcp the components that mattered stayed the same.
Which components would those be exactly? Board has changed, caps have changed, IIRC transformers have changed and yet everybody still loves them and the newest iteration is always the best and most sought after. It's got nothing to do with the amps and everything to do with the psychology of guitarists. Dave is still involved at some level so every iteration MUST be better. Mike is not involved therefore the old ones are automatically better.
