Until I bought a Wizard, I hadn't heard an amp with the "3D HiFi" thing going on like the SLO. MM certainly makes an incredible transformer set for Rick and Wizard amps, and the bloom that they have is a notch above even the great SLO.BrentSP":2ooqwrv3 said:jlb32":2ooqwrv3 said:Racerxrated":2ooqwrv3 said:It's important though, to get the DeYoung transformers. Have to. I've played SLO clones, one with Onetics and the other with MM and they didn't have the SLO bloom at volume, like the real deal SLO. Nice amps but no SLO.
According to Mike the DeYoung transformers are gone. Wonder how BAD is going to make that happen??
New DeYoung management didn’t see it benifitual to continue the Soldano contract (they’re a Aerospace company with Gov contracts) due to low minimums. BAD could resurrect it with a larger minimum but my guess is BAD will find a manufacture to clone the DeYoung. If they don’t.....the SLO is doomed most likely. Mike has said time and time again that his formula is superior sounding preamp with a hifi, stable, robust, poweramp to amplify it.
So yes, it can be done...and if BAD can pull that off, somehow, then we have a winner. I do believe that Mike S made SLOs will always command more. But it would be great to still have the option of a new and in some ways improved SLO for us gearheads to fall for.
