Thanks man. I have zero gas since I bought it. It does exactly what I want it to and fits my style perfectly. It's extremely reliable and sits in a band mix perfectly IMHO. After I brought it to band practice the first time, my bassist walked over during a break and checked it out. He's never done that before. He said it was the best tone I've gotten yet.

If 80s hard rock is something you're really into, those are two of the best companies out there. Obviously those amp companies make great amps for every type of music but I think hard rock and metal tones from say the XTC and SLO are tough to top. My 2 cents

The SLO is a hard rock dream but it does so much more. I freakin love the crunch tones I'm getting.

I will ask Mike tomorrow about any differences as I am driving over to the shop in the morning. He fixed my JetCity amp and called tonight to tell me it was done.

Wished to hell I would have kept my SP77 preamp.

The earliest SLO I've owned was a beat-up '88, originally owned by Brent Muscat/Faster Pussycat. The most recent SLO I've owned was a '09. I have pics of both but I'm too lazy to dig them out. I do have recordings of both amps into the same old homebrew iso cab, and to my ears they pretty much sound the same even though they're 21 years apart.

I was at Soldano's shop today to pick up my JetCity amp he repaired. Mike showed me a new SLO100 that they just finished and I asked him if anything about it has changed over the years and only 1 change but it does not change the sound. What has changed is there is a small board inside that holds the filter caps. They used to be the axial (spelling?) type that lay down. Those are no longer made so they use the new kind that stand up but are short. Anyway, Mike was able to redesign that board with the new caps and it bolts into where the old board did so if an amp came in and he had to switch out the board the new board could use all the same mounts with no cosmetic change.

Hi,

I have a question for real SLO-100 owners only.

If you have the overdrive channel selected but have the overdrive preamp control at 0 do you hear the normal channel when the normal preamp control is not at 0?

The schematics floating around indicate that the answer is definitely a yes and I have verified that this is the case with one amp that was supposedly, "modified to SLO-100 specs."

Is this really the case with the real deal?

I was at Soldano's shop today to pick up my JetCity amp he repaired. Yup. Newer ones use Panasonic radial caps. Older ones, Mallory axial. Shouldn't be any real difference in sound. I have some photos comparing the different years if you'd like 'em.

Are you asking if the clones are identical to the real thing? I guess that would depend on how someone builds it. But yeah, same schematic. Same layout. You can build an identical clone. Only thing you can't really get your hands on are the DeYoung transformers. But from what I've been told by people who have built a few clones and have real SLOs as well, the O'Netics transformers get you like 99% there.

But I shouldn't comment because I'm not a "real" SLO owner. I don't want someone to start making fun of my avatar again...

Bud Purvine knows what he is doing, and your clone is every bit as good as a real one in my book.

People make mistakes. There have been plenty identified with the official schematics already.

...hence, the reason for requesting information about a specific behavior from someone who actually owns the amp.
