Hi Dave or anyone out there that can help. I am going to upgrade my Output transformer in my RM100 to a Mercury and just wanted to know if I needed to use a special type of solder or flux when doing the job. I done a lot of solder jobs in the past but nothing like inside the amp. Any info is greatly appreciated.

i don't think it should matter, as long as its not a cold solder ;)

I can't wait to hear the before and after. Please be careful inside there!

Listen to both closely and at different vol's. Try recording a clip of both

Standard solder with lead please. Dave
Why with lead? Is it better than electronic solder with a flux core? I don't know much about solder and I've just been using some thicker solder with flux core.

Hi Dave,
thanks for the tip. Will give feedback and possible clips when I swap it out.
Of course it will be running your Killer modded mods!! :D
Think after you get done with the Ultra XL it will bring me up to 6 that you done for me.

A little more lower end.....get rid of the shrilly highs and make it as MEAN sounding as humanly possible! I like the "Base" voice it has just if you can clear it up a little and add some beef. Hope that makes sense. Or just use your ear and turn it into a killing machine. That would work for me as well. haha
Thanks!

Dan

What do you want out of the ultra again?
Make it sound like the Erect you just did for me,Dan would like it :D

Well the Mercury Output Tranny went in without a flaw. Dave, made your modules sound EVEN BETTER! Cant believe what a huge difference the Transformer made to the tone. We just cut the original wires and soldered the new wires to that and put shrink tubing on the soldered wires. Left the original factory job on the board. Only had to drill 2 holes and BAM! We were up and running. Sounds.....well......PERFECT.

My guess here would be the lower melting point, meaning you can lower the temp. on the iron and not lift circuit traces, or damage components.
