I need an amp that:

-is thick sounding
-has very little fizz
-"gives" nicely on palm mutes
-saturates well

I'm looking for something great for modern rock/rock that doesn't really cross into metal territory.

Please post pictures and or names in the thread :D

Cheers,

Greg

Splawn Quick Rod or Egnater Renegade

or a Fortin modded something

+1000 on the Splawn Quick Rod.

Can't beat Jet City for the prices. 100H, 100HDM, and 22H all winners in my book.

IMHO i would be looking for a 50W head of something, as once they get above the threshold for power tube distortion you get that "give" attitude very easily and also the attitude of saturation if you choose to boost it.

have you considered an egnater head of some sorts? they naturally have that give attitude, not very tight, and the distortion isnt mesa/slo/peavey based, it kinda has its own thing going on.

another option is the vox nighttrain 40 - seems like it would fit some of these, it would be worth checking out at least.

Greg,
I think you should look at a Diezel VH4, channel 3 is my fav. It would make an excellent addition to what you have for re-amping. It's got it's own signature tone.

Mike

Splawn Nitro over a QR and a Herbert/Einstein over a VH4 if you want more "give" in the palm mutes. Hagen might be cool, but I've never played one - so I don't know.

The collection you have already is awesome. How about something different, like a Mesa Lonestar or Stiletto. Maybe Laney GH100.

Tough choice.

Boom. I was thinking the Lonestar even before you said it. Very impressive amp for what it is. Sort of a fat bluesy crunch rather than a lean mean grind, and the cleans are great too.

I was thinking VH4 could be a cool idea... I have to think about this one.

fits your description to a T!

I don't think I would look to a Quick Rod for fat chunky palm mutes. Forget the Lonestar too. That thing farts out with any type of chugging. Not enough gain either. Some demos of the Lonestar sound nice but I could not get a usable rhythm sound out of that tank. I would say a Mark IV for thickness and saturation.

If you're interested I may be able to get you a Colossus amp to demo in a week or two. :)

MAn I love that amp's sound, best tone I heard at NAMM was that amp into a w/d/w rig in the eventide booth with a monster playing.

Bro the VH4 sounds like something you should check out, ch3 is the shit. I know for a fact you would HATE the HErbie for what you want ;)
