SOT: If bulbs are banned, does that mean tubes are next?

wouldnt matter.

there would be such a large black market for tubes that the only difference musicians would see is a price rise in tubes.

regardless though i believe its pertaining to all of the sheep people and saving electricity on the grids in bulk, not necessarily out to ban all things old analog just because they claim lower efficency.

nah, first they'll impose a hefty tube tax that will make the cost very high...maybe we'll need to get a state permit to use tubes, etc. i.e., the government will find a way to get money from it first. Like ATF (alcohol, tobacco and firearms).

:D

If the light bulb is banned....we are all in trouble.

Saw this blog. If they are banning the old bulbs, do you think Tubes will be next. I bet a tube amp uses more energy than a comparable SS amp.

GO LIBERALS!!!

 :gethim:

It was signed by G.W. Bush on December 19th 2007

" In addition to raising auto fuel efficiency standards 40 percent, an energy bill passed by Congress yesterday bans the incandescent light bulb by 2014.

President Bush signed the 822-page measure into law today after it was sent up Pennsylvania Avenue in a Toyota Prius hybrid vehicle. The House passed the bill by a 314-100 vote after approval by the Senate last week.

Rep. John D. Dingell, D-Mich., chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, said the legislation will boost the energy efficiency of "almost every significant product and tool and appliance that we use, from light bulbs to light trucks."

The phase-out of incandescent light is to begin with the 100-watt bulb in 2012 and end in 2014 with the 40-watt.

All light bulbs must use 25 percent to 30 percent less 2014. By 2020, bulbs must be 70 percent more efficient than they are today."

I currently work as an energy conservation consultant...don't worry about a ban on vacuum tubes, it ain't gonna happen. Using incandescent bulbs is like running a steam engine...they're obsolete compared to other types due to their horrible inefficiency. Tube technology and its uses are very different dynamically...plus a change to solid state amps would barely affect the load on the grid (which is the driver of energy/electricity conservation).

what really sucks is trying to do a good wax job on a vehicle without current lightbulbs. the simulation of the sun allows you to catch all the imperfections in the paint job.

cant say the same thing is on their minds with this bill?

I guess I will be stocking up on incandescent bulbs between now and 2012.

I've got a bunch of 100W since I run mostly 60W in the house. What about spotlights and floodlights, and those candle-looking chandlier lights...are there flourescent versions of those yet? Aren't there chemicals in these green lightbulbs harmful to human and animal life too?

WTF.

By that time the Axe-Fx will be on it's 53rd software update so it will be so real that it'd be an outer body experience by then.

I'm confused. What do we if light bulbs get banned? Surely there's much better things to be concerned about than the energy consumption of a necessary product. I hate the government.

You'll still be able to get "Halogen" bulbs, which are incandescent....

I like the old incandescent lights.

A few years back (2006) I thought I'd do my part for the environment and replaced all the lights in my house with compact florescent lights (CFLs). After a while I began having sleep difficulties, dull headaches and a hard time seeing. I attributed the problems to other reasons... mostly job stress and ageing.

Last fall we painted and bought a new TV stand for our livingroom. For some reason it just looked really off... very cold/harsh. I replaced the lights in this room with regular old incandescents and the room looked better. I also noticed that my eye strain went down and I'd get tired in that room sooner. I eventually replaced all the lights in my house with old school incandescents and I now go to bed earlier (between 10-12pm when I used to regularly stay up to 1-2am), my headaches are gone, and I can see better.

My guess is that the colour temperature of the CFLs is what caused this. The lights are a lot more blue than the red tone put off by incandescents. I'm guessing that this threw off my prehistoric brain's clock causing my sleep problems. I'm guessing that all the extra blue light through off my colour contrast, which made it very difficult to see different shades, leading to increased eye strain and headaches.

Anyway, that's my story. I'll never willingly use another CFL again, although after seeing that LED lights have different colour ranges I will be willing to give LED technology a chance once the price becomes a little more reasonable.

+1 to all of this...

Would they ban cars tomorrow if they suddenly deemed digital clocks to be of the devil?

Do you need any more proof the government is trying to keep you in the dark ?

Really? Then why do I have to buy a "special" fluorescent bulb that costs 2 times a regular fluorescent( and multiple time for a regular bulb) for lights set up with dimmer switches? Why do I have to wait for a fluorescent bulb to get brighter. What if I need to only go into a room for a few seconds to find something? A regular light bulb produces its light right away... but with a fluorescent bulb, I will have to wait for it to get fully bright...thus wasting time and energy. ...yeah, obsolete
That part was meant to be tongue in cheek but in context it didn't come off that way...that's essentially the "green" spin on the incandescent. I agree that that they're still relevant, and I get my chops busted weekly because I still use an incandescent desk lamp. I have yet to but a cfl for my home either...I prefer the warmer quality of incandescent lights.

obie dosent want you to be able to read the healthcare bill
