Sweet...

"Together, price and size constituted 80% of the scoring criteria, with product warranty and a ratio of cost/life a mere 20%."

regardless though i believe its pertaining to all of the sheep people and saving electricity on the grids in bulk, not necessarily out to ban all things old analog just because they claim lower efficency.

That's pretty much it. I used to do research into RoHS (Restrictions of Hazardous Substances) for a company, and this light bulb deal has been in the works for several years. Just about going to something less wasteful and more efficient like LED lighting. And about the tubes, we must not forget that there are other countries/industries that rely heavily on tube technology still, and very little of the tubes we come in contact with are made in the US.

In Europe,it's already in place :you can't find any 100W or 75w anymore.Shops can only sell their old stock of 60w's this year ...no new stock. It's crazy because the new ones are not working correctly at all !!!They cost a fortune and they give you a very, very weak light!I'm buying all the 60w's i can find... :aww:

With the effects of global warming brought on by coal fired power plants and other forms of fossil fuel use and subsequent abuse of power, the rich and shameless lighting up their estates like a football stadium, etc; the whole in the ozone layer gets bigger and bigger, exponentially.

I recently asked the Director of NOAA, charged with covering the effects on the Great Lakes during a meeting last summer if we stopped all adverse effects on the environment how long it would take the eco-system to re-stabilize its self. Her estimation is 1000 years before today's effects would stop creating a detriment to the environment.

Its not your 100 watt incandescent bulb or our Tubes btw, its how many kilowatts it takes to make a car, or the garbage bags you stuff with all the other consumables you buy to throw out each week like the box that was made to conveniently contain your favorite cereal, the cereal its self, the transportation to get it to the market whose florescent blubs fricken drive my eyeballs crazy.

Sorry, I haven't had enough coffee yet, but let me close with that and find where the hell I left my flame suit.

Really? Then why do I have to buy a "special" fluorescent bulb that costs 2 times a regular fluorescent( and multiple time for a regular bulb) for lights set up with dimmer switches? Why do I have to wait for a fluorescent bulb to get brighter. What if I need to only go into a room for a few seconds to find something? A regular light bulb produces its light right away... but with a fluorescent bulb, I will have to wait for it to get fully bright...thus wasting time and energy. ...yeah, obsolete
The round bulbs take a minute to light up. The curly Q ones light up instantly.

When I moved into this house about 1 1/2 years ago, I replaced most of the bulbs with fluorescent bulbs. The ones that were exposed I used the round ones and all the other were the curly Qs. Whenever the round ones eventually fail, I'll replace them with the curly Qs.

The only bulbs I've had to replace in this time were the remaining incandescent bulbs that failed. They nearly pay for themselves in longevity alone.

Incandescent bulbs have not been available in Canada for a couple of years now. As long as you get the warm color temp ones they are just about the same as Incandescents. I also get the good name brand ones (I buy them when they are on sale) that might be the reason that I don't have problems with them. I have a couple of cheap bulbs in the basement that take a while to light up, that is why they are in my basement where it doesn't bother me.

I think that tubes are not in any danger because of how few people actually use them. I think that old ineffiecent cars are in more danger of being baned.

Not sure which Canada you live in, but in mine incandescents are available at pretty much every store in town.

Might just be alberta, might just be the high wattage ones, but I haven't seen them in quite a while, and I remember hearing that they were band a while back...I just checked baned come 2012.

you guys are so funny! it must be awful living in such great fear of everything!

There will always be a market for electron tubes, having said that, the last US incandesent bulb maker just went outta bidness a couple months ago.

If the Russians stop making tubes, and the NOS stocks are dry, i'm switching to SS amps, i can't stand Chinese or Slovak toobs.

Unfortunately, I live it...

I don't know about all of that ecology noise one way or another when it comes to lights, all I know is that these kick ass. Very low draw, but bright as hell. They look fookin' awesome, too. A little pricey perhaps, but for efficiency, performance, and looks, I think they are well worth it.
