Okay, here goes.

I recently retubed my Blackstar S1 6L6 with new tubes from Eurotubes. I am also using an HT-Boost, and when activated - it would create a tinny sound which quickly fizzled out. I replaced the tube in there with another ECC83S. This helped a lot.

I also retubed my HT-Dual with a High Gain ECC83S [these tubes were also JJ's from ET].

However, I was still experiencing some significant tone loss when using my pedal board. I rewired the majority of it using George L's - and that helped quite a bit. I still need to rewire the connection points where it connects to the Amp/Guitar and FX Send/Receive.

I think I might have narrowed it down to my Boss GE-7. When it is activated [I am scooping the mids slightly-moderately and boosting a bit of low/high end for some heavier rhythm], it tends to drop the signal a bit. This has not happened before, and I have had this pedal for probably close to 6-7 years.

Is there a tendency for these things to go bad? I bought this when I was younger and not quite as schooled on the quality EQ pedals out there, hey it was recommended to me by a guy at Guitar Center! Those guys are never wrong! /sarcasm

Is there anywhere else I can look for the problem? I could post sound samples, but I am not sure yet.

Side note: As aforementioned, I also swapped the tube in the HT-Dual for a high gain tube. I think I may switch this back because there is way too much noise on this pedal, I have to back the gain way back in order to counter this added noise.

Side side note: It isn't the volume pedal. The original pedals pot went bad, having bought this from Guitar Center a number of years ago. I got into heated argument with them regarding an unrelated issue, and they sent me a new volume pedal two weeks ago to shut me up. It worked. For the time being at least.

I am at my wits end, and I am reluctant to let anyone hear this mess until i clear it up!

I don't mean to bump, but does anyone know? Can anyone recommend a -good- EQ pedal/device to use?

Thanks!

Take all the pedals out and then start adding them one by one until you find the culprit. Also make sure your powersupply is up to the task.

Good luck !

Try a cheap danelectro fish n chips eq. Transparent and just plain better than the boss or mxr to me. 20 bucks.

the singer in our band was having some similar problems with gear not playing nicely together. he went through the chain one piece at a time and found it was in the power supply to a boss ve-20 he was using to add some effects to his voice. he tried a whole list of options to correct it.. but it kept popping up. in the end we decided to just say "screw it" and use the effects on the board.
it was a very frustrating experience.

Try the pedals one at a time. Also bias your amp if you haven't done that yet.
