He would know though.

And I just talked to Dave Rat their sound guy and he said no Lip sync and no vocal track

Again I tend to agree, but one never knows 100% sure what goes on unless you're there yourself. I would believe the sound guy over anyone else though.

It was live. You can hear him go the slightest bit out of key in spots and notes aren't held as long as the studio version. Pete answered the question already.

Those aren't bad live vocals at all. Pretty close to the original in most parts.

Actually you are arguing it wasn't live, still for some reason...

I would trust a guy who has tours with Chris personally when he posts over someone on an internet forum trying to argue it was lip sync'd, if he was there or not there. I think Pete would know him and how he rolls much better. Nice to know it was double backed up by the sound guy. So it has been settled, yet again :D

Actually I'm not. All I'm saying is I can see why the first dude thought they were. I conceded that they likely were live. You really thought those vox in that first link were good?

yeah, not bad and not that far off really. Not polished like a studio, but still, pretty decent and you can clearly hear he can hit the notes he hits. He is moving around alot more in that video too.

Got any live videos of you singing? if so post em

Cool beans I suppose. :) If I did in fact have one, I'd post it. I'm not famous, and I'm not afraid to play or sing in front of peeps. I just don't have any vids of me singing. The best I have is my playing guitar live on VHS lol!

Thanks

want to be more condescending? HAHA

I actually make my living with audio, mixing and music, go figure huh. I must be deaf.

If you say so. :) I didn't know I was being condescending. I thought I was being like, "cool man, to each his own." PMS?

Pretty sure chris was lip syncing. You can see that his dynamics never change when his mouth moves closer or farther from the mic. i'd like to think he wasn't but thats always a good give away for me. i thought the rest of the mix sounded good but as others have said could have used more bass.

The music was live though, you can hear some of the slight offness of the guitar work and what not, so I am not sure how they would pull that off syncing streaming lyrics to it. His vocals were mixed pretty low so it was hard to make out everything.

It's called a click track.

yeah dude, I know what a click track is, don't think they did it that way. Soundgarden is a performance band, not a lip sync'd pop artist dancing around.

So is Ozzy but I personally heard a backing vocal track on his last tour when they did the new material. I don't know that he was lip syncing or not. I just thought it suspicious that he sounded as good as he did. You asked how they could do it, and well I simply answered the question. Using a click track doesn't mean the band isn't playing live. Heck "live" bands use them all the time to keep their meter straight. I hope he was singing live tbh.

So you use a click track?
Maybe he sounds as good as he did because he's a great singer ;)

No I don't. I have the loosely tight disease hehe. Yes he is a great singer! Like I said, he's my favorite Seattle singer by a wide margin.

The guy sings his ass off. Period. I played somewhere around 300 shows with him- he sang great every night, he could on any given day sing easily as well as he did on conan. If not better. I've even seen him do it at acoustic duo stuff we did at radio stations at like 8 am. He just sounds like that.

I agree eith the guys that say lees analyzing, more digging the music- and that maybe he sounds like that because he's a great singer.

Fuck, there's barely any real rock and roll left out there, let's just be stoked about this, that's what I say.

Thought it was a great performance. The guitars were loud...and I almost never think that. Thought it was great all around. Hope they record some new material.

And am I the only one that thinks that tune is totally weak? Its a reject from the Motorfinger sessions right? Blah

Unfortunately this is the key statement for me. Everything sounded fine as in his singing but I just found the song incredibly dull. For those complaining about the mix. When have you ever heard a good mix from a performance on a TV show. I don't think I ever had.
