Just a heads up.

I received a Marshall-style head shell from Sourmash today. I've got ones from Mojo, ValveStorm, and a few others.

This Sourmash one is by far the nicest. The construction quality is fantastic. The tolex job is great. No nails or staples sticking out anywhere. The wood is solid. The joints are solid. The head shell is built the way it's supposed to be, with a flat bottom so there are no edges sticking up to block the chassis' front panel. And the rear panel sits flush. The screws holding the rear panel on are mounted with ferrels so they don't pull through the tolex or split the wood. And the piping is held on nicely and not pulling away due to a bad glue job.

The head shell from ValveStorm is nice as well. It came with aluminum flashing already mounted on the inside. But the Sourmash one can be customized to a greater extent.

Finally, a business that actually delivers what they promise.

+1 I recently bought a custom head shell from Sourmash and it exceeded my expectations. Great cab at a great price.

Agreed. Love my Sourmash 2061CX cab. Sounds awesome and looks great, a real quality build. I also had them do a custom headshell for me a few years ago.

I've bought two Sourmash head cabs in the last few mos. Top notch quality, good pricing and great customer service.

Ive had Bob at Sourmash build me two 4x12's and a custom head shell for my Smallbox over the years. He does great work!

I have one of his headshells too, and its top notch.

Whoops... looks like I spoke too soon. I hadn't mounted a chassis in it yet because you gotta drill holes and all that.

Scott PM'd me to warn me about something so I double checked and he was right.

The rear panel can't be attached with a chassis in the cab. Because the cab isn't deep enough. The rear panel only has like a fraction of cunt hair of room to reattach and just sticks out about 1/4" from the rear of the cab. Really weird. Looks like it'll have to go back. It's a shame though, because everything else about the cab is great. I wonder if they're built to fit a specific chassis. They sure don't work with a standard Marshall JMP50 or JTM45 sized chassis, which is what I have.

I got one for a 1987x and it works.

The external dimensions are all the same from cab to cab. But the interior dimensions are smaller because the wood is thicker. So... better/thicker wood, but can't fit the chassis haha. Looks like I'm gonna have to return it :(

Where did the chassis come from? I've found some (Ceriatone) to be a little deeper that stock Marshall.

It won't fit the Metro either. I specifically asked before ordering and offered to measure my chassis 2 different times via email and go no response. I didn't sent it back but I can't recommend them either

Ok, got a response from Sourmash and their suggestion actually worked. Scott, you might want to try this.

The front panel unscrews from the inside. Remove it.

Shim the front panel by placing thin strips of wood or card stock along the mounting surface to bring the front panel out. This allows you to mount the chassis deeper, letting the rear sit flush(er).

I just tried it and it should work. Might need to get slightly longer wood screws for the front panel though.
