Like so many others, Ace was the reason that I wanted to play guitar. The entire reason that I have been a diehard Les Paul guy for 37 years. Those early Kiss records were rock n roll education for a young guitarist. I got to see him in New Orleans in the early 90s. Killer show. I can't say that I was surprised to hear of his passing. His addictions were well documented. I am still sad that we now live in a world without him.

KISS is the band that got me into hard rock (which got me into metal). The first thing I heard was Rock & Roll Over, which my older sister had on 8-track. I was hooked after that (I think I was in the 3rd or 4th grade). The first album I bought was Double Platinum (on LP). I remember I actually wanted Alive II, but the record store I went to didn't have it. I eventually got all their albums, save for their self-titled and Dressed To Kill, up through Dynasty. I even went as Gene Simmons one year for Halloween. And not just the makeup, but with a wig with the man bun on top, the outfit with the bat wings and chains (that I made out of aluminum foil  ). Everything but the platform shoes. I lost interest in them after Dynasty. I never liked 80's KISS or anything that followed after that.

RIP Ace.

Rock & Roll Over is my favorite studio album. That tour is when I first saw them. It was my first concert, too. Some idiot behind me set fire to my Parka which was draped on my seat. I didn't notice. I kid you not. So, I walk into the house after the concert and my Dad said "HOW DID YOUR COAT CATCH FIRE?!" I was like "Huh? OH!!!"

Sad day. He was truly a legend that inspired countless players to pick up guitars. R.I.P. Ace.

He wasn’t a personal influence to me, but I grew up with KISS music all around me. He was the total rockstar. His style was copied, he influenced many people, that’s all you can ask for as a human being. RIP ACE.
