---WTF!!!---

-id take that bet about being able to tell the difference between cabs & there material..

-cab construction & the materials used is everything.. put a good ORANGE cab-(AKA NOT A CRUSH)- next to another "quality" cab with the same horrible Chinese V-30's and tell me they dont matter....

Okay my first question is simple if I have two 16 ohm v30 speakers. Can I just buy a marshall cab with a sixteen ohm g-12T75 speakers take 2 out and put the v30s or do I need to rewire the cab for different ohms?

Second question might be a debate. Why do some 1960 marshall cabs sound awesome. But others sound like trash usually the bad sounding ones just say jcm 1960 lead on the badge. While the good sounding cabs say lead on the badge however from my research the Cabs are identical.
Yes to the first, the second is mostly due to speakers and how they are wired IMO. So, the wiring..the JCM 800 cabs and prior were wired mono and if you take a later stereo cab and just re wire it with a mono jack the tone improves a lot IMO. So, if you like T75s your best bet is to find a JCM 800 cab with them, they are less scooped and wired mono. Or, find a later stereo cab from the 90s or later and re wire.

I have a 1960B and want to remove the stereo option and rewire for mono. Is there a replacement jack plate that is fairly a drop in replacement?

I have both the UK and China made versions and to me they sound identical. Don’t get hung up on that.

^ Getting some pickups with better clarity and dynamics will on the other hand make a big difference

Hey there fek. Actually a pretty good question and worth its own thread IMO. I mean, the 1960 cab already has a mono option IIRC so start a thread so we can figure out exactly what it is you are trying to do.

The Mesa V30s are still UK made and sound better than the Chinese V30s by a long shot, but the older Marshall branded V30s are great too but harder to find, the straight Celestion branded V30s are killer also, but also harder to come by now.

I agree, but it's due to the voicing more than where they are made. The Mesas are noticeably darker, and smoother to me. But, don't discount the importance of the cab itself...I had a Mesa traditional(british) next to a Rivera slant(chinese) next to a Bogner(chinese). They all sounded killer, the Mesa was identical tonally to the Rivera and the Bog was a little warmer. After that I was sold on quality cabs=better boxes.

The Marshall Vintages are nice, but the top end can be too much...but, the 8 ohm versions from the mid-late 80s are warm and fat sounding. Not crispy like the 90s on to today.....had an old Jubilee cab with the 8 ohm versions and it killed.

I don't know I feel like the V30s and the Rectoverb are at ods lol

Plug in a quality guitar, with quality pickups, and I believe your problem will be partially solved. Garbage in = garbage out. Those pickups would have been my priority, day one. And if those V30's are new, they are going to take your head off for awhile.

Invest in an EQ in the loop, too. Should be in everyone's toolbox.

You know, you keep saying this but you’re also on record that you automatically dime the presence on every amp and barely have the treble cracked open. Have you tried different settings to get the best out of this speaker? I find every speaker requires different settings to sound optimal.

Yes I do dime the presence, and go from there..but I do end up dropping it if it's too over the top. I just like the 'bite' that seems to be there with the presence high or even maxed, at least on Marshalls. Sometimes I max the mids and keep the high end down, but it just seems smeared to me. The detail or clarity drops a bit.
I haven't had a Marshall Vintage loaded cab for a few years, but when I did I liked it but just not as much as a G12 65 cab or GB cab with my Marshalls.

You've described two speakers with 35 oz G12M frames. The 65 has a large dust cap that rolls off high end, the GB's I'm guessing are G12M Greenbacks. These speakers you can get away with more high end than a 50 oz H magnet, such as the G12H30, V30, etc. The 50 oz magnets give you more bass and treble around the mids, so they seem flatter. In reality, you just have a wider usable frequency range.

From what you've posted on this thread, you just don't care for heavy magnet speakers.

I’d like to see how many could actually tell the difference between MDF and plywood in a blind test. I guarantee not many if any.

BINGO
Nuff Said
